Thanks y'all! So... I'm pretty sure this is the lungs and heart, right? And do the lungs look okay and healthy? And then this is the liver correct? Does it look healthy? What is the black thing in the middle? I've heard to look for white spots on the livers of small game to make sure they don't have tularemia but I'm not quite sure what a healthy liver looks like in the first place. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/10/full-59341-271084-img_20251008_192243736.jpg)

Edit: also, should I technically be saying "first harvest " instead of "kill" ? I think you had it right the first time. I "harvest" potatoes and carrots from the garden.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Good killin' boy! There may be certain times/places to use the word harvest over kill, but here ain't one of them.
Throw out the gall bladder.

The black thing in the liver is the gall bladder. It releases bile into the small intestines to aid in digestion. Looks normal. Aha! That's cool! Thanks!

Out West, yes on tularemia, and a host of flea-born nasties. Some rabbits are literally crawling with fleas and ticks. And the ones I hunt are usually easting desert-type plants, which don't enhance the flavor. I admit that when I was a young "Daniel Boone wanna-be" type, I got a little campfire going and cooked up both a cottontail and a jackrabbit, "eating off the land" once. ONCE! And a bite of the jackrabbit cured me of that one. The cottontail was almost as tough as the jack, but not quite as awful. Managed to actually swallow a couple bites. After that trip, I always brought a sandwich. And obviously, I survived. That said, I have also survived eating under-cooked pork, but I wouldn't recommend chancing it.
Just doing what I want now.

Thank ya! Yeah, good job but I thought you were supposed to be shooting deer today, not tree rats? My dad had to work this afternoon and technically I can't hunt deer without an adult during the youth season so I had to make do with shooting a bushytail instead

We did go out this morning though, but the only deer I saw was a couple under our apple trees almost 2 hours before legal light

Tell us the story of the hunt. I was walking on the back of the property to grab the SD card from one of my trail cams, and just before I got to the trail cam I saw a rabbit hop into the brush in front of me and he was gone before I could get a shot at him. I was right next to one of my tripod stands, and I decided to climb it to see what I could see, who knows, maybe the rabbit had stopped right on the other side of the tall weeds. So I turned the corner to get to the stand and there was another, smaller rabbit right there, 2-3 feet in front of me. It started to jump away when it saw me and it only made it one hop before I smacked him to the back of the head with a round of CCI Velocitor So the shot was roughly 6 feet? Heck of a shot. There aren't 2 maybe 3 men in the world that could have made that shot. Nice work and keep stacking them up.
I have nothing clever to put here.
