We make and run a paste bait made from field mice and voles with just a couple ingriedents that really draws and holds the canines attention
we dont bother to use any moles or shrews ive watched fox kill and play with them but never seem to eat them
i try to start with a gallon of whole mice and i usually have them frozen so after i thaw them i run the whole mouse thru the grinder twice
then place in a clean vented bucket and allow to taint for 10 to 14 days until the top turns a greenish / grey but underneath is a beautiful pink
we then mix up the top with the pink all together thats when we stabilize with sodium benzoate and methyl parabin
i like to let the meat base sit for at least a week to allow the stabilizers to take effect then add 4 oz of Mr Bob Jamisons Erminator

Very nice. I've been considering doing this exact thing. Is the mouse musk oil what gives them that nice pet-shop smell?

Bob, how many mice to a gallon of bait? You just trapping them around old buildings?

theres about 205 field mice to a gallon but the voles are 2x the size of the mice i tack snap traps to a piece of 2x6 and mix anise with the peanut butter i took quite a few around are re-hab kennels because of the spilled food
if you dont pin the traps down the coon and squarels run off with the traps
you could buy domestic mice in a pinch but in recent years there price has gone thru the roof when my boys were very young they would set out there mouse lines i miss those days
i have taken 2 pieces of plywood on the edge of the lawn and field tack the snap traps to the bottom piece and peanut butter in the traps then i scatter bird seed and place wooden blocks to act as spacers big enough to allow the traps to fire then place the top piece of plywood on top to keep the majority of birds from getting tangled up
