They are decent. They do have their place like all firearm calibers.

Which one did you order and what are you thinking about using it for?

I have an A17, great for coon calling.

A buddy of mine has this one, pretty cool....

You can show me in the 22 mag fan club.

I have nothing clever to put here.

If I had to choose between the two, I'd agree with you. .22 mag would be my choice,,,, but I don't have to choose. I have an A22 mag too. grin

Me too, one loaded by each door of every building and all sighted in with the same ammo. I like to keep things simple.

Nah, not a fan of the 17 HMR.

Huge fan of a 22 mag and own several of them.

ADC...93R17 GV w/ the heavy barrel . Probably take a few boxes to find what it likes. I do have a pretty nice scope to put on it.

…. I was trapping with sheepdog and Tim craven once down here…. Tim saw a wad of hogs feeding in a thinned out pine plantation… sheepdog handed Tim a 17 hmr .. we slipped up close with a good wind …. Tim laid that rifle over my shoulder and busted one one of those hogs in the head … it just squealed and took off runnin like prime Ezekiel Elliott lol

Love mine! I have a savage Bolt action with an old Leopold 3 x 9 scope on it. That thing has been bounced out of the buggy and hit dirt roads more than I can count, been in the bottom of the boat underwater, thrown around in the back of trucks, has always retained zero and has killed a pile of critters from snakes to hogs. I don’t think I’ve pulled my 22 out of the safe in the last five years.

When not in the thick pines or brush, the 17hmr is my choice for coyote hunting behind hounds. Ive heard a lot of folks berate them for coyote hunting. They arent my choice for calling coyotes, but for fast shooting at running coyotes inside 150 yds, it has performed well.

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1165127399?pid=689451 - my savage likes those.

What are you planning on shooting with it? It's good for head shots on critters up to coon/fox sized, but I'd shoot a coyote with it too if the opportunity presented itself. I don't think I'd shoot hogs based on Savell's post though. lol

I'm sure Green County Pete will be along to write you a nice long post with a ton of info too.

ADC... that's exactly what I ordered w/ the gun. Savage had a $30 factory rebate on them until the end of this month.
Really just a ride along gun on the line plus a H&R 999 .22 w/ shorts for the few coon and skunk incidentals.

I'm guessing with all your fox out that way, it'll be a great gun for you.

…. I busted a grey behind the shoulder with one …. It did about 3 flips like a Kenyan gymnast and ran into a briar patch

Like the accuracy but not a hard hitting round.

Was born in a Big City Will die in the Country OK with that!

Fun gun to shoot.
My son has a tack driver .17 and head shot rabbits, coon, and a couple coyotes all at 100 yards with a good scope, saw him do it many times at our old acreage.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
