I was selling over 800 coon a year. I was getting $10.00 per coon. It cost me $500.00 to ship them + expenses. I was making money then they wanted more coon and wanted them sooner. I gave my contacts to another trapper.

NC Wildlife regs, page 69, defines a hunting season, bag limit, and gear restrictions for hunting raccoons. Raccoon is also a fur bearing animal, thus the hides can be sold. In NC, no part of a game animal may be sold. We cannot sell deer hides or antlers, or wild game birds ( except pen raised). Deer farms are illegal here.

In WV we can not sell or barter the meat. I had a man offer to skin every coon I caught in exchange for the meat, but it was not legal. He was a friend of my grandpas and when coon were less plentiful we always gave our coon meat to him when we coon hunted.
Its a shame we can't sell the meat because I feel there is a market in my area with a lot of the elderly in the coal camps.

I wonder how restaurants list a coon meal on their menu. It's probably a very popular meal in southern states. I’ve been to every state south of the mason dixon line.. and have never even heard of it being on a menu..

In NC, no part of a game animal may be sold. We cannot sell deer hides or antlers, or wild game birds ( except pen raised). Deer farms are illegal here. Charles, you are only partially correct. Raccoons are a fur bearing animal and as such, all parts may be bought or sold. Deer hides can also be sold now. That was changed several years ago. From the NC General Statutes: G.S. 113-291.3 #5 Lawfully taken fur‑bearing animals and their parts, including furs and pelts, may, subject to any tagging and reporting requirements, be possessed, transported, bought, sold, given or received as a gift, or otherwise disposed of without restriction. The skin of deer lawfully taken by hunting may be possessed, transported, bought, or sold, subject to tagging and reporting requirements and any season limits set by the Wildlife Resources Commission. The Wildlife Resources Commission may regulate the importation of wildlife from without the State by fur dealers, and may regulate the sale of fox fur and other wildlife hides taken within the State if sale of them is authorized. Fox furs lawfully taken without the State may be imported, possessed, transported, bought, sold, and exported in accordance with reasonable rules of the Wildlife Resources Commission. Processed furs acquired through lawful channels within or without the State by persons other than fur dealers are not subject to rule. The Regulations Digest that you reference is a summary of the laws and rules but it does not cover every circumstance. Sometimes you have to go to the actual law to determine what is legal or not. I know several folks who have raccoon meat market of their catches in NC. There are other sections of law that also apply to wild game. Rabbit and squirrel can be sold as well.
