After a heavy rain what do you need to do in regards to coyote sets?

Specifically double dirt hole sets

Might need to reset. Mud might have washed under the pan. Clean out the hole and dry to find some dry dirt or waxed dirt to rebed. Won't be long before freezing weather.

Since I use Mark Zagger’s pipe dream set, I rarely do anything. The trap is suspended over a hole. A stiff screen is used over the trap. A big handful of dry grass is used over the trap screen and feathered out on the sides. The whole set is designed to let the water flow thru. Nothing really needs to be done even after a heavy rain.

Depends on how you made your trap bed, soil type and the weather. So sets are better suited to rain and inclement weather, such as the pipe dream set as an example.

I don't think about rain disturbing my sets here unless I set in the snow (yeah, you are going to have to remake after a rain) or I used native dirt to bed the trap rather than waxed sand. Then I have to worry about it freezing unless it is early and warm weather, and it will sometimes cause the dirt to slump and expose the trap. If you bedded in waxed sand you should be good unless you set the trap low where there is literally water standing over the trap, even then the trap should function as long as it doesn't freeze, but your target animal is liable to avoid stepping in the water. Obviously if your dirthole fills with water you'll have to redo that.

Heavy rain.......................... what's that? LOL. If its a foot trap set, it gets a quick glance as I set those types in some pretty heavy cover for here. No further "freshing" of coyote sets do I do unless its a flood that has standing water for over 1 day. If they are snares I stay away but may check for tracks on the trail. My experience. ............................................................ the mike

I leave em alone as long as the trap isnt showing. Maybe relure or squirt some fish oil in the holes. If you dont use a pan cover you might have to redo the bed if you dont think the trap will fire because mud/sand got packed under the bed

I will drive a long stake in the center of the set for a sump when expecting rain. It really works.
