We process our own deer and i like to save and let sour a few of the leg bones every year
i dont usually let them go till there rank just till they have that sweet aged smell then coat them in non-iodized salt and keep them in a sealed bucket so they wont contaminate any of the equipment
I start by digging out for the trap bed as close to the same size trap that im gonna be using and run my earth anchor down into the deeper trap bed
and either side of the bed i tap two divets to acomadate both levers then snug in the set trap so that it will rest on both levers
i like the trap to sit give or take about 3/4 inch below the surface then place a wire screen cover over the pan being sure to allow for the dog to fire freely
i then take my hammer and tap the perimeter snugging the sod to the trap solid
once you press down and make sure that there is no wobble i take my driver and make a hole for the soured leg to go into then push it down into the hole firmly then

cover the trap with grass clippings and make the trap disapear keeping in mind to try to cover an area bigger then just the trap bed
so that you cant tell where the trap starts and ends i run good gland and urine
this is the time of year we unfortunatly receive alot of rain and pinch-bedding will keep the set working and natural looking
