Over the past 2+ years of doing nuisance work, I've caught probably 30-40 shrews while mole trapping. All of them have been in Trapline or No Mol traps. My question is...do you believe a shrew has enough lead in its behind to trip an Out-of-Sight? Thanks!

I have caught thousands of shrews while mole trapping. Never realized that they ran the mole tunnels as they do until that behavioral trait was brought to my attention. I use strictly Trapline mole traps the last 17 years. I have used most all available mole traps successfully but have settled on those little traps. I have never caught a shrew in an O/S trap when I used them many years ago or the spear type traps.

I believe they are more of a follow an opening type of creature but may try to squeeze thru a slight opening if given the chance. Maybe others have caught them in the O/S I am with you on being skeptical on them firing an O/S trap.

In theory, I would think they don't have enough strength to fire that trap. And if they did, most likely they wouldn't be caught due to their short body length.

But you never know, some circumstances like that may explain some fired traps with no catches along the way too.

They’re probably searching the tunnel for food too.

That or they’re just visiting their cousins!

This is exactly why I'm asking the question Bob. Two days ago I had 11 moles. 10 in OOS and 1 in a Trapline, but had 3 OOS tripped. One was clearly a dig under, but the other 2 had no evidence of this. As with most trapping, unless you're running a camera to prove otherwise, it's merely opinion or theory, but I'm beginning to believe the little guys can trip them.
