What y'all got when it comes to keeping hogs from wrecking. Your tripod feeders. Recently pulled up to check one and the legs where still there tied to the tposts...but the barrel and all was gone mud all up side the posts figured a big one just bumped the dela off and dragged it off figured next one I better use som tapping. Screws in all the leg sections to keep them for popping loos and maybe dig down holes and quick-crete the legs in .... Anyway what y'all got ?....other then the obvious of kill the hogs, that's a given laugh

Hogs ain't toted off the feeder...not any further than they can roll it anyway.

You may have a bear.

Steel T-posts driven in & wired to legs with #9 wire will hold it together & upright from hogs and wind.....but a bear will just tear the motor or gravity tube off the bottom. Hogs will too if they can reach it.

I know my buddy about 30 miles away has been having issues with black bear but don't think there's been one sighting it this area for a few decades....I mens could be but haven't seen any type of sign of one ....
I mean that being said this isn't the first time I've had a job so something like this idk if they roll them if grab it then but when I was first making my roll feeders for them and I was just attaching them with the bucket handles idk come back to obvious hog rooting and the bucket just gone could never find them .....

Anyhow yeah could be a bear possibly wish I had a camera on it because had no clue how long it was down like that dad was supposed to be filling and just checking it while I was gone ( I mean I set it up for him) but when I asked he said been "a while " since he last checked in it so yeahhh

Mine’s elevated on 4 poles, clamped to rebar drove in, and bottom of feeder is about 12-13 feet high, so issues with hogs or bear.

Save yourself some trouble. Buy a 330 ft roll of 32” field fence. Enough to make two 40’x40’ exclosures. Need 17 of the 5ft t posts per exclosure.

A bear can travel 30 miles over night.

We (Ga DNR) had an adult male radio-collared that travelled 60+ miles one way overnight and 48 hours later he was back where he started.

There's likely hair in the mud, be it from a hog, or a bear, you can identify.

I had to take and put a 4x4 x12 dig a hole and cement in ground about 3 to 4 ft deep drop a 6 in pvc pipe over it. You gonna have to do some measuring. Cut pvc short enough that when you attach your drum it comes to the bottom of the drum.drill 2 holes one about 6 inches from top and the other as far down as you can reach. You can use long lag bolts but I used carriage bolts Also cut 2 short pieces of 2x4 and drill a hole in them using them as your flat washer on the inside so the drum will not tear from the bolts pulling thru from the weight. Remember to leave it high enough a over the post so you can put the lid down on.can be pre tabernacle home in about 30 minutes.i am gonna try to attach a pic not to successful at that.

We got on a lease once that had a feeder mounted on a 4" steel pipe that was concreted into the ground

Had pig pruf on the galvanized barrel

Guess whoever planted it figured it was too much trouble to take up and left it

Best method I know of to defeat pigs or bears is to attach a pulley yo a high limb and use a winch to suspend the feeder high enough neither can reach.
Of course that only work in the woods
