For those that have used both, opinion?

I've pretty much settled on fangs but always looking for that something better, I guess. I just don't see that much difference but I haven't handled the spears yet. Possibly easier to pull?

fangs turn over much more quickly. I would often have the spears pull out of the ground without turning over.

I kind of suspected that might happen. That bend on the fangs pretty much grabs and holds on the first good tug.

Never heard of spears but have had zero issues with fangs

Other than trying to retrieve them

If by spears you mean super stakes, they are very good. Only problem I’ve had is pulling them in frozen ground, I’ve broken HD 5 chain trying to get them out. Fangs work great too, but I always have to fix them after pulling them.

The high desert spears was one of if not the original disposable stake. Most every other ones that followed were copies with some modification.

Spears, aka High Desert Spears, are available from no-bs lures.

From pics, they look to be a touch smaller than wolf fangs and might be a bit easier to pull. But I wouldn't expect by much. Using an auger the fangs pop right out.

I got some brand that was slightly larger than the fangs

Had to modify my driver a tad but they work just as good

If I fold one pulling it, I pound it back in shape and mark it so I know it was previously bent.

Cable gets cut after it is used twice.
May not be necessary but I don't want to keep reshaping them and weakening them and then Mr Coyote is gone with my trap

There's two versions of the Wolf Fangs. There's the Wolf Creek version and the FnT/Freedom Brand version. Wolf creeks are stamped with WCP. Can't remember if the FB ones are stamped

l use fangs with 12-18” of 7X7 3/32 cable in sand
never had one pull out.
This year went to 12” of 3/32 still no problems in our sandy soil.
lf they get rusty l replace them, otherwise l put new cables on them every season. For removal l drill beside them with a 3” auger and use a trapping trowel for the last bit.

Let's call an Ace , an Ace !

O'Gorman Enterprises in Broadus , Montana was the VERY FIRST company to offer the High Desert Spear as a cable stake head.

Without pointing fingers. . . know this : F n T Wolf fangs are the exact same stake head as Wolf Creek's Wolf Fangs, which are the original stake design that Craig started . . . not to mention 2 other smaller companies that also make the design.
Stop saying they are different, they are not. ( unless you mean there's a different name on them )
They're easy to punch out and anyone can make them if they had the cut out design and a press

I know (some) like and use Butera stake heads.
I'm not one of them.
I personally want something more substantial, meaning a larger surface area.
Harder to pull out, is my thought.

I personally use the Wolf Fang head from Wolf Creek Products, here in Ohio.
They make two sizes. I have been happy with both from the start.
I also make cable stakes for other trappers.
All are made using 1/8th cable and double ferrules on both ends.
Over-kill ? I never had one fail and I never had a customer disappointed.

* If you like another style, that's great too.

If I could ever figure out how to post a photo on here, I would show some illustrations, yet since the change from Photobucket,
I can't seem to post any.

There's also Dirt Dog anchors. There a bit larger/wider than Wolf Fangs. And they used to make a thicker version that would be unlikely to bend while pulling....if you so desired to reuse. I cut and run so I dont pull'em.

Not sure if Dirt Dogs are being made any longer but I preferred them down here in southern Georgia sugar sand.

I'll see if I can get some pics of my anchors.

I hated the Butera spade stakes it was just about impossible to make a driver for them. So, I took the design and made them with a notch. I never got into making them in volume and never wanted to sell any. But I was years ahead of what's out there now.
I could care less how someone came up with the design for the Spears or Fangs.

My anchors are 4" long and 2 1/2" wide and have a 3/4" wide notch and It's 5/8ths " deep. and made out of 12-gauge metal. Basically, the same shape as the Fangs.
