The Butler Farm Show grounds are about three miles from my home. I had a lot of friends and relatives, my son , and in-laws in attendance that day. Also had LE friends who worked the rally. That goofy kid just got lucky, a lot of complacency that day as far as security. Butler is a conservative town and county, LE, at nearly every level, were asleep at the wheel. No one fielded their A Team . Never expected any kind of threat. The crowds showed up 12 hours before Trump was to take the stage, and the temperatures were in the mid 90s. Long hot day, everyone trying to stay out of the heat and get the day finished. That led to a lot of security lapses.

Never underestimate any government agency’s ability to fail.

But to believe this Crooks kid was some kind of deep state sinister hit man ? He was simply a misfit loser who fell through the cracks.

I don't believe Crooks was "on the payroll." But I do believe that either before or after, probably both, he had said or done things online that should've red flagged him to any diligent and competent agency tasked to monitor such things. That obviously did not happen and if it did no follow or even the most cursory investigation was done. Now that raises the question of gross incompetence or the big ugly of willful looking aside or worse, and if so why?
