I am a beginner and was wanting to know what you guys do? Dip your traps in FMJ or wax your leg holds for coyote?

Wax. I've tried dips of all kinds. I always go back to wax.

I haven't waxed for years. FMJ works for me in the arid west. I've heard it can soften up in a wet climate where the ground stays wet for a high percentage of time - I don't know. Lately I have dipped my traps in 50 / 50 Rustoleum primer and latex paint thinned considerably with acetone. I let it dry completely then give it a second thin coat. This wears well and protects the traps. It also doesn't absorb odors the way waxed traps can.

United we stand.

Started out dye and wax, then just dye, now I dip in primer/paint thinner mix. Draw back is they need time to air out to lose the odor.

I have used nearly all the methods over the years. I have gone back to dye and wax.

When I need more clean traps to use when I am on the road I take my traps to the car wash clean them well and dry. Then I wax only before setting out again. That is what I use for all my predator traps.

I cold dip my water traps in a primer most of the time now.
