Eleven Native school children and teacher hospitalized after grizzly bear attack in British Columbia. I wonder if any Natives regret fighting to ban hunting by white people of Grizzly bears in 2017. Now they are the ONLY ones allowed to hunt Grizzlies there. I feel for the kids, but question the self serving greed of the Nuxalk Nation. I don't know how to post the article, but maybe someone on here can?

That school, teacher, and tribe should be sued for every last penny. They created that scenario and put those children in a deadly situation with flipping repellant for protection and nobody had a shotgun. Why???
I get it if you wanna lick ferns and hug trees - whatever, but the minute you take other peoples kids - there better be some protection.

From the adult male teacher bearing the brunt of it, I'm guessing he did the right thing and tried to protect the children, even if he was only equipped with bear spray to do so.

A terrible incident, but life comes at you and in this case it was a grizzly.

BC was so dumb when they eliminated grizzly hunting.

And we are even dumber for still not allowing grizzlies to be hunted.

Very true elkguy , while I was on the Citizens Advisory Committee , I pushed for a hunting season for grizzly bears , along with a trapping season for Mtn lions and to do away with the bobcat quota in Montana as we're hardly scratching surface of the bobcat habitat !

If I remember correctly British Columbia did away with the grizzly bear hunting season in 1997 .

What I find interesting is back then it was very rare to hear about a bear human conflict when they were hunted on a regular basis , one must wonder why !

There was also still bear/ human conflicts when they were in season just didnt make the news as much.

Pretty sure G bear hunting ended in the late 90’s on the central coast

Bella coola valley is full of G bears. Always has been. Lots of salmon-fruit trees-mushrooms

Recently, much of the plateau has been burnt,,,, likely adding even more bears to the valley

4-5 years ago a little old lady punched one in nose in the coop parking lot, trying to steal donuts out of her shopping cart,,,,,,,


This was a very tragic event

Thank,you Tucker for the correction , still as hunting season would help slow down the bear human conflicts , or even of as what is done in the Cody Wyo area a load of bird shot and dogs giving them what for along with shouting and that puts them on the move for parts unknown .

I've seen many different news stories about this event and the numbers vary from story to story as to how many were injured and by what either the bear or pepper spray .
The bottom line for me is those injured have a full and speedy recovery

Here in Montana the numbers of grizzly bears is way over the target data set forth for the capacity of the habitat which in turn forces them to move into places where conflicts can occur , there isn't a balance of nature yet , and grizzly bears are being killed by the federal or Montana fish wildlife and parks dept costing the people of Montana and I for one would rather see a sports person get the chance to harvest the grizzly after they had purchased a tag and were drawn for the opportunity harvest the problem grizzly .
