Meet a kid paralyzed from being unbuckled in a car crash, go to a funeral for a kid killed from being unbuckled in a car crash, and your mind tends to change about such things.

We all did dumb things when we were young, but when we know better, we do better.

I rode in the back of plenty of trucks, but now whenever kids' friends get in the vehicle and don't buckle up, I tell them "buckle up, nobody wants to go to your funeral".

When it comes to seat belts I have to say do what you want.
Lost my best friend when I was 14, he was buckled in and got T-boned and truck caught on fire and died.
Girl friend wasn't buckled, she lived.
She did later have to have leg amputated, but like I said she lived.

Let me sugar coat this

Experience is the Teacher . . . seatbelts are safety precautions until you're in a crash and they won't release and you can't get them off. Lesson for future reference . . . always carry a knife in your BACK pocket or where you can reach it to cut the belt. That may just save your life especially if vehicle is on fire!

Daughter wasn't wearing her seat belt when she rolled her car. Officers said she would of died if she would of had it on.

I bought a brand new dodge 3500 2018, my youngest daughter was in the backseat and somehow the seatbelt tightened around her throat and would not release.. I had to stop in the side of the interstate and cut the belt off of her.. she was panicking… carried it to the dealer, they said it was a malfunction in the mechanism

For every victim who died while buckled up, there are hundreds who were killed. Same goes for vaccine reactions. The vast majority benefit from them and the odds do not favor the people who abandon safety measures.

No they are not. You get told that but it's false.

My scout leader flipped this vehicle died because he hung upside-down to long. My son was in the nest crash rated car seat made at the time and was killed when we were t boned by a guy ther ran a Iight.

My wifr rolled her car when we were in high-school after a blow out. Her head had a lot of glas and bark embedded in her car stopped rolling when it hit the tree. Had she not been buckled up she would have bee ejected and dead.

I have been in several bad wrecks and likely would have been through the windshield and dead if not buckled up with airbags.

Like any safety equipment it can save you or kill you. Pick the odds you prefer.

yup , not every kid needs the life experience of attending a class mates funeral in High school , actually go a year or two now without a Highschool funeral now.

man want a rough year we lost 2 4-H kids one summer to tractor roll overs.

So we see the nanny staters. Never said I wasn't for or didn't use carseats just that the same guy who rode me and my brothers around in the bed of a pickup or loose in a station wagon would nit pick on it now. But the guy never met a rule he didn't like.

Why dont school busses have seat belts?
I knew two gals that had their seat belts on and their cars ended up upside down in a pool of water. Guess how that ended.
I always wear a seat belt

That's why I wear my seat belt about half the time. Playing the odds.

I flipped a jeep end over end when I was 22. Without a seat belt, I would for sure have been ejected straight ahead, in the path of the jeep. With a seat belt, Ended up with a broken nose and collar bone. Probably would have been much worse had I been ejected. I was thrown from a boat and was not wearing a life jacket. Had to dive down a couple of times to keep the motor from hitting me. Yes, there are always examples when the safety aides made things worse. I know two doctors very well who make a good portion of their living patching folks up from vehicle accidents. They dont move their vehicle until everyone is buckled up.

1. Compartmentalization. School buses have high, padded seat backs that you (or a kid) will smash into, not a steering wheel or windshield.

2. School buses are very heavy, they're not likely to roll and eject kids in a crash.

3. Having 20+ kids to unbuckle and get out of the vehicle by one driver (can't assume kids will be able to do it themselves) is a big risk.

It's a matter of balancing risks.

If you're going to ride in the bed of a truck, just make sure that you are hammered drunk. You'll have a better chance of just a little road rash.
