Last night, coming home from eating out… I spotted a big ole fresh roadkill coon… being in my wife’s vehicle, I never even uttered a word about stopping, but I knew it would still be there this morning…. Something in the back of my head kept telling me just leave it, but I couldn’t do it… so I make the 10 mile round trip and gather my coon.. he’s a nice one.. biggest this year! I clamp his foot in my skinning machine.. make All the necessary cuts and on the first pull… his leg comes detached… switch legs and start the second pull.. it also comes detached.. so now I have a rope tied around the base of the tail, finally get the legs skint.. clamp the hide in my vice grips and gently hit the winch button.. yep.. the backbone gives way and down it comes.. along with all the intestines… he was full of acorns if any of you were wondering… finally get him tied back up.. winch bottoms out.. re tied.. had to adjust the vice grips and tear a hole in him.. finally get him skint , fleshed and on a board.. I would not doubt it took me 45 minutes from start to finish… maybe he will bring $4!!!

I admire your determination! And I can just imagine the vocabulary used.

My boy did the same thing a couple weeks ago. It held together better than your coon, but he still struggled. He was happy about the one dollar he got for it though, and he needs to practice anyway.

Skinning roadkill coon is a mess every time…no matter how good they look. Every roadkill coon at a minimum the guts pour out. That tiny little muscle at the base of the stomach gets ripped every time no matter how light they got hit.

If you're like me you couldn't just let a good (first thought, anyway) pelt just lay there... now it's on the board and headed to the fur market... you've already been rewarded... $$$ or not.

Ya if did the same. Its hard to leave them lay. Even a big old beaver road kill picked just to get them castor out of them in the middle of summer.

Have probably picked up and skinned over 100 skunk road kills. Those always pay good but can be a little messy at times. But being low to the ground they don't usually sustain too much damage. Lots just get clipped in the head. If they actually get a tire hit their usually ripped in half, but this year the tail is still worth money
