When I had an airboat, it was indispensable.

Just doing what I want now.

I just bought a Dragan winch. It’s under 2 pounds and very small. Worth it if you’re willing to spend the money.

Get one and don't leave home without it. I heard that Vevor makes one now but I haven't seen one in person to judge it. Modify the handle so that it's removable to make it more compact. That's a trick that JR showed at an ATA meeting. It works great.

I agree not for everyone but if weight and space is super important it’s an amazing tool and worth the money.

Any link or further info on how to perform the handle modification?

I used Blue Steel, but it had a tendency to slip. Nylon/poly twist was better and the little bit of stretch-recoil helped at times.
mad_mike might chime in. He has a lot of experience with different lines on rope-alongs, as does JR.

Thanks and what size line would that be.
Last moose season buddy pulled his out and slipped bad, of course working in the dark pulling a moose out of beaver slough.
Luckily I had old-fashioned heavy heavier come along in canoe . Next time I may need him.

Sometimes I find you have to hold the tag end up slightly to avoid slipping. Especially with frozen rope. The gear doesn’t seem to like any back pressure from tag end. Throwing tag end over the top of tight rope keeps it aligned better. I’ve always gotten it to work. The twisted Polly or nylon rope works best. Could never get braided rope to work with mine.

Putting away the rope along and rope after -30 in overflow is so much fun!

I love the smell of burning spruce---I love the sound of a spring time goose---I love the feel of 40 below---from my trapline I will never go!

My rope is half inch hard-lay polypropylene. I have a hunch that the hard surface provides more for the tool to bite into than a softer nylon surface might provide.. just a hunch. Never had slipping issues with it
