I understand your sentiment but it just isn't so. The armed conflict that became the Rev war began in New England which now is just a little behind Oregon in liberal insanity. Society changes and people's social and political views change. In your own state, Houston, the city named for the former President of the Republic of Texas, is a hotbed of liberalism, as is Austin and a number of other big cities. It seems to me to be more a battle between rural and city. I hate the politics here in Va because it is ruled by the liberals in the NE part of the state. Local politics here in the southwest of the state are solidly conservative, although we do have some snowflakes. The same is true of Illinois where I have a number of friends that live down state from the Chicago area.

… the north won and their ideas were forced on the entire nation … that’s where we started down the path to where we are today

… the CSA would have chosen a much different path for the nation

The war has been over for a while Savell. You remind me of Hiroo Onoda:)

How many generations back did your kin fight in that war? I bet a good genealogist would find some of your ancestor fought on both sides.

… moms side has a genealogy book .. and dads side all accounts show confederate

… but even it were true… what does that have to do with my original point?

Okay. So how exactly do you think the nation would be different right now if the other side had won back then? You've posted this theme so many times I'm genuinely intrigued how you think it would be different. (I am not trying to be antagonistic.) It is interesting to consider what might have been if things had gone different at any pivotal point in history.

Then again, maybe we shouldn't hijack an old post LOL.

… it never hurts to hijack a post … they just end up fading to the back pages otherwise

… I think the country would have stayed truer to the spirit of 1776

… big government won at Appomattox

I'm all for smaller less intrusive government. How do you define the spirit of 1776?

Australia doesn't seem to be headed in a good direction to me the way their firearms laws have become so restrictive lately. What's better in Australia than here?

… that’s why I said with more freedom

.. Australia doesn’t have our constitution or the second amendment

.. your reading comprehension seems a bit weak

.. what Australia does do is mind its own business and limits 3rd world immigration

"your reading comprehension seems a bit weak"

Come on man, why you going there?

I'm just trying to understand how you think things would be so much better here had the south won. You say Australia, so I was just trying to understand what you liked about Australia that was better than here.

I will stop asking questions if it makes you uncomfortable. Peace Brother.

Not uncomfortable and no hard feelings on my end.The comment about my reading comprehension led me to think it was going sideways - personnal. That doesn't promote understanding, which was my goal with the questions.

I can see why you might of gone there though - because my original post included the comment that some of your ancestors might have fought for the north. I apologize for that tongue in cheek barb, if it offended you Savell.

Didn’t offend me at all

… I intentionally put in the line “ with more freedoms “

.. and you glanced over it … I was just pointing that out

… didn’t mean for it to be viewed as a personal slight

.. amen
