Decided to put this up around the rabbit pen because the dogs got hyped and ripped off the tarp I just put on... Rabbits fine doesn't even seem to care anymore but I'm getting anyhow watched and read some stuff and it seems like it should work perfectly but nothing. Is working according to my tester the heck am I missing?

1st you need a good ground.if it's still not working you either have a short in your wire somewhere or the fence is junk.my tester has 6 bulbs that light up if you have a strong signal and goes down from there as the signal gets weaker it's hard to see in the daylight if all else fails just grab the wire and see if you get shocked then you will know for sure.take a steel claw hammer touch the wire then cross it to a steel fence post and see if you get a arc from the hammer to the post is another way.

Almost always a ground issue. You can put a ground wire between the two hot wires so when a critter touches both they get a big zap. Some critters feet don’t ground well so the extra wire helps.

If you’re just trying to educate the dogs to stay away it usually only takes once. Watering the ground around the fence will give them a more “shocking” experience.

On another note, that plastic stuff works ok on horses but not the best for long haired critters in my experience. I’d get the lightest galvanized wire you can and ground it deep with a clean rod.

My guess poor ground. The most important thing is a ground!!! A copper rod and go deep then pour a gallon of water on dirt where you drove in that ground rod.

I can't tell for certain from the pics you provided.

Is just the top wire hot or do you have it jumped down the the lower wires as well ?

As far as the hot and the ground rod goes it looks like the top wire is hot.

Disconnect from ground and make sure has power. Backtrac from there. Check for weeds as well/.

test at the unit

then connect after it works there

you likely have no / not good ground or a short

I like to go hot ground hot so that if they try and push through they get to experience the full effect of cross body connection.

hot to earth ground is an attention getter , but wire ground to hot cross body is a whole new experience of WOW that got your attention

your large positive clamp may not be making good contact with the metallic strands in your poly wire

This is a distinct possibility.

The poly wire should be enough to do the job as long as its in good condition Those tiny conductors in it can be easily broken. We use miles of it for temporary fences and break wires to divide up larger pastures.

If you are going to be using the fence long term I would switch out the poly wire for galvanized fencing wire.

As others have stated grounding is very important. Without grounding you have nothing.

I would start by completely disconnecting the fence from the fence charger. Plug it in and see if there is good voltage right on the fencer. That will eliminate a bad fencer as a possibility.

Make sure you have a good ground. For something as small as what you are dealing with it really doesn't need to be very substantial, but it does need to be functional. If the ground is very dry or frozen proper grounding can be difficult.

If all that checks out I would place my bet on a bad connection somewhere.

Wolfie, I like that positive wire to be wrapped tightly around your fence for 6-8” to make sure you are getting contact.

My guess is you got a faulty tester and you should get your fingers wet and grab a hold of it and see if its working.

I was thinking that . Think maybe I should just run a strand of that poly wire from eh fence to the charger ?

Ok so probably should replace that pice of rebar I'm using for a ground then huh ? Just rained last night so the ground is soaked .

Also I know I sound like a idiot but when y'all say test the charger should I used the little tester I got for the fence on it or like a actual volt meter ?
