Didn’t want to jack the other smelly thread but I’ve noticed a sweet smell when hunting in MO the last several fall hunts. I can’t figure what it is it’s not a candy or spice smell it’s tough to explain but it’s very noticeable at least to me. It was really strong in a hay field that I hunt in with some trees in the fence lines.

Any ideas from the folks that live there is it a plant or tree school me.

Thanks

I have friends in Mo and went there many times when I lived in Ky. That is the sweet smell of FREEDOM.

I will not forget when I trapped Indiana years ago. I had some farms I trapped down wind of a Purina processing plant. I could remember that mash type odor to this day. I had never smelled such an odor. Very distinct and pleasant.

I can't say that I ever smelled it during the fall. It's normally in the spring when it blossoms out. But it does have a very distinct sweet smell to it.

You likely walked thru a patch of Peppermint, smells like a candy cane, gather the seeds and they will grow nicely in partial sun. Mostly a Glade plat, but I have found it in the middle of 2 track roads thru the woods.
I took some home for my Mom and they lived in her gravel driveway for at least 40 yrs. She would make little cachet's to give to the neighbor girls for their dainty's drawer.

Sassafras leaves and some others smell good when you walk through them or even when they are just dropping. Sycamore leaves can have a sweetish , overpowering smell.

… reminds me of when grandma would dry them and crush them up as an air freshener in her house

… to this day the smell brings back memories of getting beaten with a steel antanea off a 72 Chevy longbed pick up truck
