Found out from a local elementary school I can talk to the kids a bit about trapping! A client of mine works there and another employee, a third grade teacher, does a lot for his class about the outdoors. Takes them to release trout every spring. I asked if he would like me to come talk to them and it sounds definite. The age group is a little younger than those I’d like to reach but I’m all for it.
I’ll be contacting the PTA to see if they will loan me tanned pelts I don’t have and maybe some coloring books for the little ones. And maybe FTA will get track ID cards for them.

Can’t wait to meet the little scamps

Maybe those future voters will have a positive opinion on trapping even if not many take it up. Good job smash

The earlier we can expose children to the positives of trapping, the better. I hope you and the kids both enjoy it.

Thanks Danny I love kids. I wish somebody would have taken the time to talk to me as a young person….maybe it wouldn’t have taken me so long to change my mind about it.
I may have little experience and few rewards in the field but I sure am passionate about teaching and sharing. I hope I’m the right person for the job

Outstanding. Yes, see if PTA has pelts. You say they are younger, so keep it fun, yes to coloring books. Talk about how trapping is an important tool to keep animal populations healthy.

Take some #1 coil spring and long springs for them to hold.

You’ll do great!

Oh yeah! 8-9 year olds. Will be awesome. Take clean, unset traps.

See if you can get some tanned fur, if PTA doesn’t have them, the hunter education team near you should. Take those. Keep it short and fun.

I think a talk like this was the main driver that got me interested in trapping. We went on a field trip to Letchworth state park in elementary school, They were doing workshops on how pioneers lived, one of them was about trapping. It very much interested me, but I think what pushed it over the edge was the way that our teacher bad mouthed it as we left the workshop. Her vocal ridicule of trapping only made me want to try it more.
