It seems I try a different new set about every year I’m still not impressed with what I’ve found yet. A biggest issue is when it thaws between the ice and mud they move around or slip/pull off, it’s not an issue if it stays cold. In a thaw it becomes a real pain walking with them on I can’t go without them that's even worse then. Spendy pair but the have a higher crossover strap that the toe/heal ones lack that allows them to move right to left more causing problems. Wife is picking a set of these up tomorrow for me if they are in stock. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2025/12/full-18408-278348-img_5532.jpeg)

I be interested to know how they work. Not that I can walk so well even with cleats. But I have like you state tried a bunch and always find something don't like. Just never stay on right if you move alot.

Those look excellent the pair I have now lack the heal spikes. I stepped on a RR tie with just my heal about piled up yesterday. One thing good about those i have now I can heal walk in the kitchen with them to hook up the wifes dippy doodle. Checked the reviews they were kind of rough on breakage problems $84 bucks I was resistant paying $40 but I’m cheap. Thanks I do like the look.

The problem have had with are that the rubber part that holds them on breaks. A few ears back I made a set with small dog chain that was flat links and used cord to attach to my foot. I just mad them for the front sole of the boot and really did a good job. I need to do some work on them now I actually wore out the chain and will need to replace that part. The cord that attached them was wove under the bootstrings and stayed on well.

Law Dog,
I bought those Kahtoola's for my winter maintenance and Law Enforcement crews...they LOVE them! I like them they might be my next purchase if this new pair can’t do the job. Thanks

Have you ever thought about those boots where you can screw the traction screws into the soles of the boots? just unscrew them when you don't need them. Not sure the sole would stay on with the way the make boots today they separate with no spikes now.

I run the Katoolahs too... absolutely the best. Just don't wear them in the house.

Do Katoolahs stand the test of hiking 40 to 50 miles of rough terrain a week? Will the rubbah part that stretches ovah the boot last or have you had trouble with that?
Most any brand have been good for ice fishing when you aren't doing anything but walking on ice which is ideal for less wear and tear.

Law using for ice fishing primarily most any pair out there will last a long time or even a lifetime. Yes, Law the real test comes when you use them in rough country not in ideal conditions.

I wore Rocky boots years ago in the river breaks the sides would shift offset from the sole from walking on the side hills not much flatland there.

I wear mine bird hunting, nothing makes my lower back ache more than walking on slippery ground. My current pair are in there 6th season, just don’t wear them into stores.. they frown on that.

A pair of Kathools is still cheaper than a trip to the ER.
