I never thought it was but am starting to question that. Why, well when you don't know how many of what you have, forget about something then stumble across it and thing o ya forgot about that one. And have many you have not shot in over a decade.

So im thinking I may have to many. BUT the sad part is there are more I would like to have but surely don't need. I think its may be a sickness I suspect many of us suffer from.

I should probably liquidate some long unused items and replace with the new wants but that goes against the grain

Anyone else have this problem? Could be i have bought many guns the last several years but not one has been for me and im ready for something new to play with. But I know I don't need anything.

But I keep eye balling m 1 grands and 1911s along with double barrel and over and unders. Maybe a nee rifle barrel for my Thompson center encore In 7mm-08 for a short light hunting gun. ( have not shot a deer in years and have plenty of deer guns to use)

It just does not make any logical since.

Better to have a few really nice ones you use and enjoy rather than a bunch of cheap stuff that sits around

Have had more than 100 guns. But years ago started to thin the herd. Grand kids have some. Nieces, nephews and now some are earmarked for the great grand children.
When NY went from shotgun only for deer to rifle in most zones I sold a few slug guns but picked up as many, if not more rifles.
I probably have around 50 guns now and quit buying around 10 years ago.

Can't have too many, if that's what you want. But I only have one for each purpose. Or, rather, if I have a gun that fulfills a purpose, I don't need more than one. I guess you could come up with as many roles for a gun as your want. But I have one shot gun, one full size pistol, one concealed carry pistol, one general purpose AR, one battle rifle (m1a), etc. If I buy a new gun that fills a role I already have, I get rid of the old one. For example, when I bought my Beretta 92, I traded my SD40VE for a drum set for the kids.

Pretty broad question. Kind of like can you have to many tattoos? To many fishing rods?
All about whats your thing, what you can afford. Mostly what do you enjoy? Really not about what someone else thinks is to many or to much of something.
How many traps do you have? How many kids do you have?
Not everything has to be a competition.

I have some cheap stuff that is inherited and other cheap stuff I got when it was the best I could afford and has a lot of memories so its all got to stay.

The best part is I seem to always favor and grab the cheap stuff to hunt. My savage 62 is a great example. Cheap beat to crap first 4473 I ever filled out. Paid $89 for it new in 98. Not worth $25 today with no blue, broken off front sight chunk missing out of the butt plate. Has a nice vx3 and is the first .22 I go for when I need one. The nice ones don't get out much. MY 39A is an example of this. Gun to shoot but to heaven to want to hunt with and to nice to let bug spray take off the finish. So it sits at home.

To many boats
To much ammo/components
To much fishing equipment
To many trucks
The list could go on for a while covering things you can't have to much of

Yes its personal not a competition. some are good with bar minimum as long as its functional other like to collect or meet specialized. You can get by with a 12g pump for anything you need a shotgun for but you may want a high end semi auto duck gun, lighter gage quail gun, sporting clay guns, something else for dove and yet a different gun for rabbits. And possible a few different ones for each roll.

I never thought it would think I could have to many but am becoming more minimalist, purpose and function based as I get older. If I don't use it and have not in a l ong time I probably don't need it. Sentimental stuff from my grandparents is the worst. Not necessarily guns but things that we tree theirs i don't want out or to use because I don't want them getting broke or mesed up. So a lot of stuff sits in storage in the way taking up space.

I have some guns that get used the most 3 main ones and others that just sit around waiting for the dust to get wiped off and oiled now and again.

Heck I have guns at my in-laws, moms,&.brother inlaws. There are night stand guns, door guns, vehicle guns, barn guns ect.. Places I have found it to be handy to have quick access to more than the handgun on my hip over the years. I can find a a way to justify any gun purchase needed or not.

Take that 1911. I have never had one. It will work on on contact shots if its locked and loaded and you pull the trigger and hold it before you turn off the safety it will fire when the safty is turned off. . Most other autos can be pushed out of battery if pressed against the target keeping them from shooting. But the safety keeps the slide on a 1911 from being pushed backwards so if the trigger is pulled before safety turned off it will fire when it is turned off. The other solution is use a revolver.

I don't have a shower gun probably should get that fixed. A stainless revolver in plastic case with o ring that suction cups to or hangs from the wall .

Also should have toilet guns but typically have the gun on my belt handy then so not as important as a shower gun.

I Wonder how caried away with silly ideas we can get.

When my son moved to Texas I gave him most of mine, he would have got them anyway, some were my fathers..Told him they're just tools, use em, sell em, whatever...
I have a few left that I might use again, . If he ever drives back up he can take some more home...

Don't be the guy that drops dead and his wife put his guns in garbage pails and put them out for pickup....true story....
