Friend of my son did/does. Don't now to much about the operation, believe he raised trout in a couple of ponds.

I’m pretty sure Wolfie was playing around with it.

I'm assuming they farm oysters in the ocean and not tanks?

You can do oysters on a small scale but the water salinity is a pain to monitor.

Used to work with a friend who had a clam bed on 3.5 acres of leased Pamlico sound bottom. It was a put and take operation. We put about 250,000 clams on it in April and raked them as the seafood market needed them through the summer. Hard, hot, boring work. We only used a small strip of bottom where there was no grass.

I raised fish, crayfish, mussels and stocked peoples ponds---NY regulated me out of the fish business and we left out for New Mexico!

Yes, oyster leases on bay bottom here. The oysters are purchased from a hatchery as "spat", itty bitty oysters, they're hybrids that don't spawn, so all their energy goes to growth...
within a year they make legal size as halfshells, leave them too long and they get big as a saucer.
The oysters are in floating cages that periodically get culled and divided as they grow....can't imagine trying to grow and feed them in upland tanks unless there's a supply of sea water...not cost effective with the price of waterfront land.
