pulled the little line we had out, no marten, no fisher, but close, we had some new conibear pan on some traps, and it didn't trip when marten when in and got the beaver bait, also had fisher go to with in 10 feet of trap and turn around and leave [Linked Image]

Dang, that sucks about the traps not firing. Bet you won't be using those pans again!

If your laws allows it, next season put out some pre-baits (beaver carcasses) a week before your short season opens, the marten will be waiting to jump into your traps on opening day.

I will take another look at them and see if we can add just them some way, yes, we can pre-bait, but no trap can be out,

Hey Roy, would you send me a DM as to which pans you were using? We don't have martin trapping in Wisconsin, so I'll have to incur some expense if I want to get a marten. They are a pretty fur bearer.

Dahlgren, it looks like you have a good spot for next year. That is more than half the battle when trying to catch one with a 10 day season. Double the gear next year and get ready to fill tags.
Good luck

I would look at Montana/Idaho with combination wolf trapping trip or Upper Michigan as possibilities.

I don't know, have not looked into it.
Just looked Michigan reg up ... Yes, non residents can trap marten in Zone 1 ( UP) during the 10 ? day season with all the necessary licenses, permits, tags and registration.

Wisconsin has a marten restoration area a bit east of my cabin, but I don't see an open season in my lifetime. I'm not sure I could trap marten out west as Wisconsin doesn't have a season.

Non residents cannot trap marten on Montana, but they can in Idaho and I believe Wyoming. You can in Washington too, but I don't know why you would want to.

Thanks for the western states marten trapping info waggler.

Jk, we can only hope that next year Wisconsin can get it's wolf season back again. Really dread having to release them full grown wolves.

And I hear ya about being in better shape.

I looked earlier, and on the permit buying page, for marten and fisher, under non-resident is says N/A so I assumed that meant they could not trap them.

Non-residents are not allowed to trap fisher, marten, bobcat, or otter in Michigan.

Thanks Leroy, digging deeper I see that non-residents are not eligible for tags for fur bearer with quotas.

we are trying to change the cities tag regulations, so nonresidents can trap Michigan, may in a year or two
