I came into a couple of these cameras and am wondering if I need the app and whatnot to get them going? Hoping I can just put a SD card in, turn it on and good to go? https://www.midwayusa.com/product/102622974?pid=904140

You will need the app and pay for monthly service for the camera to work.
Im not aware of any cell camera that you can just put an SD in and turn it on to take pics like a non-cell camera.
You should just buy a non-cell camera.

Thanks, Sounds like of no use to me, no way I'm going to pay for an app. when I'll probably use at most a week or so a year.

Spypoint will do regular pics you can turn it off with the app on your phone plus you get 100 free cell photos a month if you go over it just stops sending you pics but it keep taking pics and storing them on the chip no extra charge after you hit the 100 free photos. If you need more cell photos you can buy by the month or yearly nothing crazy for pricing. Lots of different plans available, I pay $99 for 250 photos a month for all 4 of my cameras it covers all the cams you have listed with them be it 1 or 12 they all get the 250 pics a month. Don’t pay a dime extra you still get 100 free photos.

With this thing, the app.......
I can turn the cam on and set the settings with just the app and then take the card out to get the pics instead of buying a plan and having them sent to a phone?

No....got to purchase a plan to activate camera. It's a cell camera...that's how they work. Sounds like you need a non-cell camera. Academy Sports has the non-cell Muddy cameras for $29.

Spypoint WILL give you 100 FREE photos a month with their gear and the cams WILL work like a standard trail cam with its micro chip. NO fees if you go over the 100 pics it will just stops sending the cell pics but the chip will continue to collect photos but you need to read the chips then to see all of your pics the cam has taken. The 100 free pic resets every month automatically.
Seen in a review of several trail cameras a cam with internal memory even not sure what brand it was so some have different features do your research is your best bet.
Amazon has a 2 Spypoint M combo on sale for $99 now each camera gets the 100 free photos every month you will need to purchase micro cards and a reader to make sure you do miss any photos that it didn’t send cell wise.
I have 4 in nasty cat country all 4 have been sending signals since day 1 so I can’t complain about how they are working for my usage.

Seen a twin pack of the Flex M cams for $99 yesterday I can’t find it today. LOL FYI there’s a little more work to cell cams like format updates just more tech to deal with but getting the pics at home has a lot of advantages to that.
Found some Flex M on eBay a twin pack for $85 shipped
