Nice clean set. I used to overthink my sets and would of added a few small stones or twigs for guides.

Very instructive photos. Well done.

When my steak is on the grill I feel my mouth watering. I wonder if vegans feel the same way when mowing the lawn?

Calcium Chloride?

I was wondering what it’s for as well. After looking it up, is this sprinkled in the dirt around the trap pan, springs, and jaws to prevent the damp soil from freezing around the trap?

Yes I assume is CC because of the flakes. My Dad preferred it over anything else for stopping traps from freezing up. It will melt ice or even lightly crusted traps, it creates heat when it gets wet. Dad used to run it through a thrift store blender to make it a powder. Dig trap bed, layer of CC dry dirt, bed trap CC then dirt again cover with CC and dirt till flush or slightly below ground.

It says 3 way melting but only list two Potassium C and Magnesium C, I’m guessing the third is Calcium C.

Whatever it is, it works.

Not if you treat them. I’ve been using it for ten years or better, ain’t had a trap fall apart yet.

When i make a re-make i first try to level the surrounding debri at the catch circle this set was a trench type set so once i look over the trap and check the cable
i like to use a seperate shovel for the re-make just to reopen the hole to keep the smell of the paste bait that was used inside the hole and not in the bed
using my normal trowel i sculpt out the trap bed and put a good layer of new dirt down first(waxed)to act like a pillow then snug the set trap into the pillow of dirt moving it back and forth to sturdy the trap
once thats done i place a pan cover(sifted peat moss) keeping it inside the jaws then take the dry dirt and go all the way around the trap to look like a doughnut keeping in mind to keep it a little high
knowing that your gonna bed down the trap but i like to keep the pan exsposed so my fingers dont get crushed when bedding the trap
i will taper the sides so the dirt actually comes over the jaws a bit to help guide the foot to the pan once the set looks as natural as i can make it cover the pan with dry dirt just about a little less then half an inch
i then take my brush and starting at the hole brush-out any imperfections keeping in mind to taper the sides i usually wont use urine on a re-make because the last animal will have it saturated
but i like to re bait the hole with a paste bait when the set is finished the only thing [Linked Image]
