My house is kept a little chilly so making a starter isn't very productive. I wanna try my hand at sourdough as a couple pros here make it look really good. I'm gonna make a hot box for my starter and see how it goes.

Can describe how you are going to make one, what does it consist of?

Are you talking about starting a sourdough loaf to get it to rise or making starter to get into making bread?

Don't you make a starter by letting it grow and discard half and repeat for a while? I'm gonna use a large cardboard box with a nightlight for heat. Just like a hot box for caulk with a lightbulb.

Back during the quarantine period of Covid. I followed some Sour Dough pages. There are all kinds of gadgets to keep your starter and dough warm and proofing. A quick search will bring them up. An insulated box and a heat pad tend to work out real good.

Probably could use seed starter pad if you already have one. My wife has some little jar deal she plugs in think just for dough.

I use the oven with the light on for the initial rise, when I perk up the starter I have a heat register in the kitchen, I put the starter on the edge of it, or the shelf right above it...too cheap to buy more gadgets, lol and this has worked well....

I keep my house between 58-64, and my starter sits on the counter in the coldest part of my kitchen. I sit the jar on a dish cloth, and will wrap it in a dish cloth if I need it to be warmer. I'm just not a fan of adding heat to it.

For proofing actual dough, I will put it in the oven to get it to move along faster.
