If runs are scarce and you kind find runs, digging pockets if possible or lure ona stick sets work well.

If the banks can be dug take your shovel and punch out a indentation at water level it doesnt have to be too deep and where you place the trap should be deep enough for the water to be about a half inch over the trap
then stick a piece of apple on a stick to plug into the indentation and touch the piece of apple with a couple drops of anise
be sure to secure the trap solid in case a coon shows up first and if possible run a slide wire drowner

Sounds like a good place for Hagz bracket with the trap held under the surface an inch or two and a piece of apple or carrot above the trap. I am using fiberglass rods and 110s on the Hagz clips, but think the above setup might be better.
Using the 3/8" rods and Hagz clips, I can set the runs with the conis lower jaws just off the bottom and sometimes bait the trigger, other times not. I also can set the trap with the lower jaws about an inch under the surface and a piece of carrot or apple about a 1/2" above the water surface.
Both sets produce very well.

Just doing what I want now.
