At 0420 EST the earth reached its max tilt of 23.5 degrees away from the sun. It will start going the other way now and we will be gaining day light. I have 8 hours 23 minutes and 24 seconds of daylight today. On the 31st I will have 8 hours 28 minutes and 9 seconds of daylight. In March I will gain a hour and 46 minutes. That is the most time I gain in a month.

Curious question:
Since we start getting closer to the sun tomorrow why does the average temperature continue to drop until late January?

That explains why I was bumping into walls and running into stuff about 3 am this morning!

I have nothing clever to put here.

We are not getting closer to the sun right now.
As the sun appears higher in the sky from now until the Summer Solstice, we start receiving more direct sun light which more effectively heats up the land and water.
The Earth does revolve around the sun in an elliptical orbit, which moves us closer to the sun twice a year, but that does not cause a difference in temperature throughout the year.
