Here are some precautions I take for situations like this when it’s possible somebody will drive over your sets.

The stick or post set will have them swerve around it thus not running over your trap. The DHs I set well below the surface. It creates a bowl when the ground freezes and even if they don’t Miss the hole the chances are good that the tire will not destroy the trap.

I like your stick sets as always. Those dirt holes here would be full of snow/ice/freeze,thaw run off. But would be good for the first two weeks or so of season.

Would like to learn more about that TD. I only have one farm that has clay ground, I have to make the water go somewhere when I construct the set. I’m guessing you get too much rainfall/snow and the temps get too low where you are to do something similar?

Silly question, but couldn’t you make the same set, just a foot or so off the main tire track towards the woods and still catch the critter?

Simple answer is yes, however a reasonable person would think whoever it was that drove through there would have just stayed in my tire tracks and miss them altogether, but they didn’t. Whether that was on purpose or not, I can’t say, just that past experience has caused me to set below the ground or with an obstruction when setting anywhere, in any field.

Big rocks work well for that here not a lot of trees in the pasture or hay fields rocks in most places can be found.
