In that device you hold, most of the knowledge of the world is at your fingertips. It's certainly not just a phone. Now what you do with that device is up to you. While the phone part can be a pain for some, it can also be a serious time saver and certainly has saved many lives.
As for technology as a whole, what we expose ourselves to is mostly up to the individual. Every time you enter your email address for this service or that, you subject yourself to unwanted solicitation. You can do without whatever it is you are signing up for that requests it, of course. However, email is how most businesses will communicate with you, and medical scheduling is pretty much an email or text affair also.
And as was pointed out to me many years ago, when I claimed I hated texting, it is intended for short messages, not long conversations, and it provides you with the ability to not respond or to even delete the conversation or contact for that matter. I find that very useful, myself.
As a whole, I love technology, but am computer-challenged, and sure get frustrated when something goes haywire, because I probably don't know how to fix it,
.

Just doing what I want now.

I googled how to not get any calls not in my contact list. Does not ring just goes directly to voicemail. Scammers rarely leave a voicemail.

Biggest problem I see is gaming. Don't see kids outside playing anymore when they have a snowday from school. Facebook has become a way of life.

Having said that the computer age also has a lot of plusses. One of them is that my cell phone has made my job much easier and more productive.

Has technology hurt us more then it's worth?

I don't believe it has hurt us more then it is worth. If you talk about it being part of the world we need to have it and be on the top of tech industry. If we don't move forward we are worse off.

I think tech is very important in our world we live in and it is frustrating and people use it in the wrong ways is where the problem starts.

I dont answer calls if its not on my contact list or im expecting a call back( lately there are medical)

Have not had my voice mail set up in years so no one can leave a voice mail. If I dont answered send a txt. If its not your normal number your calling from send a txt leting me know who it is.

Other than my wife, mom, dad, one cousin and my kids I get very few calls other than scams. I use it for tman. And investment research. If im working on something I look it up beforehand to be sure im not missing a trick and have everything in line and organized before geting started. The maps are great and offer warn of speed traps, construction and other delays.

It's easy to get to cared away with the phones but are a great asset . I have more info available in my pocket than imaginable just 10 years ago.

Probably a question people have been asking for a hundred years. I do believe social media has made society much worse. Technology in general has been good.

We aint seen the worst of it yet. Electronics has caused brain rot in our youth. I expect someday it will all crash and render us helpless.

It's not just the youth. My wife told me how a woman came out of the stall in the bathroom and said the toilet would not flush. Wife went in it was a crowded bathroom with lines. Pushed the button on the side of the toilet and it flushed just fine. Lady was in her 40s and to lazy or to dumb to not know how a toilet will.flush if its not automatic.

What these phones can do is amazing...but letting it control your lives is on you....Mine is set up as a phone....with texting and a few other simple functions, everything else this thing can do is turned off or deleted.... I could live without it, cause I grew up without it.

but that's me....

Craziest thing I've seen was 2 young couples come into a restaurant my wife and I were in, the ladies were beautiful!, the guys were good looking fellers...they sat down, picked out their phones, and never once looked at each other or said a word..... Heck, I couldn't take my eyes off these girls, lol....couldn't believe it.... crazy

you know there are people calling from a business that can't send you a txt because they are calling from the desk phone not a cell phone.

I have customers call in a trouble ticket ,who don't pick up when I call back , they have a full or not setup voice mail , I call 3 times , I call from the company phone system that shows the company name in the caller ID and I am not txting you from my personal cell. after 3 tries , it is on you to call in with the issue again. I make notes on the ticket what time I called , if I got VM full or not setup , ect..

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Technology has helped us a lot. All we need is the internet and a mailbox and we can live way out in the sticks and supply our living. Don't have to run to town or a ranch hand job. I just bought an iphone recently and it's handy, mostly use it for pictures. It's all a tool and how you use it or it uses you
