You uses one? If so, the pro's and con's for year round feeding. If your wondering. Its legal here in South Carolina on private property.
So, what has been your experience? Do big bucks visit them?

Yes.....deer down here have no problems eating from a covered trough. During late summer there would be half a dozen velvet-racked bucks with their heads hung over in there eating at once....

But, several months back, after CWD was detected 35 miles north of me, I stopped using the trough and two gravity-pipe feeders. Current recommendation from Georgia DNR is to eliminate these type feeders to lessen deer to deer contact and use spinners that can be moved occasionally or to spread on the ground over a large areas.......So, I'm gonna do my part and follow the recommendations.

Cons are that coons and bears will get in the troughs and sit and eat....and crap. Permanent feeder locations also attract rattlesnakes for obvious reasons (squirrels in daytime/rats at night.) I'd put the trough on skids.

I feed mostly corn with sometimes peas or soybeans mixed in. Have a couple of these big feeder that I put on skids and a tailgate spreader on the SxS.....but I'm only 2 miles from my property and being retired...it's just what I enjoy doing, so time spent on the place is how I punch my reset button.

Used one for quite a long time. The trough sat 30 inches off of the ground. The cover was at least 3 foot over the trough made with old metal roofing. The trough was a 55 gallon plastic drum cut length wise. Bucks, does, turkeys , squirrels and all kinds of birds used it. Corn was the main feed but like S.W. some soybeans were mixed in once in awhile. Mixed wheat in a few times but the deer seemed to pick around it. The down side was young of the year deer, fawns, had a hard time getting to the feed. A salt block and mineral block was about 20 feet away. That's when I first learned there was a defiant picking order over who got to eat first. Watched some pretty good doe and turkey fights by that feeder.

Haha, you ain’t seen nothing until you see Fox and Grey squirrels go at it!

Yes, BIG bucks will feed out of it. I had a homemade one I used for years made out of a blue plastic 55gal barrel. Mine was fed with corn/peanuts.

Wanna Be, you don't use them anymore? Is it because of the hogs? Im dealing with 6-7 coons. I plan on fixing that issue after the January 1st.

I just want to feed and provide supplements throughout the year.

Keep it high enough so the hogs cannot get into it.
