I'm by no means a coon trapper, but is anyone else noticing a low population this year? I haven't seen many on my deer cams or on the roads. I put a bucket feeder full of corn out 2 weeks ago in a creek bottom with big den trees I've trapped before, and not a single coon on the camera I had on it. I walked the creek bottom and didn't see a single track anywhere. I'm in southern Indiana. Not Iowa, but we usually have coons.

I've seen massive amount of coon here , then disease runs through them and there's hardly any...but they bounce back in a couple few years....

Seems to be plenty here, once you weed through the possums. The last couple years I was finding tons of dead or dying ones along creeks and river, presumably from distemper? The dead ones look like they just curled up by the waters edge and decided to take a forever nap, and I saw few live but obviously sick ones that were wandering around the shore or on logs out in the water, that I put out of their misery. But I haven't found a dead one yet this year.

Wedon't have the population density that IA, ILL, MO and other major corn growing areas have but our population is very strong here when compared to the norm. It is surprising to me that we have not had any major disease in the areas I trap or llivie in when one considers there has been limited harvest for over a decade. Several of the larger dairy operations have been using ADC firms to help them with the coons around, bunkers, piles and other grain and corn silage storage areas.

This area they were up this year. We usually don't have a big population of coon.
