Took a look at the new Winchester made in Portugal, beautiful gun, seems put together well. I've been casually looking for an older model 70 for awhile, I think new may be a better buy. Anyone have one yet?

I do not have one but looking at the new model I would not be afraid to buy one.

I have some and my only complaint is that they are heavy, very heavy. Especially the Super Grades.

I have nothing clever to put here.

You may want to lift some weights before next season

The new BACO M70's are TANKS. I just got a stainless Super Grade and it weighs over 10 pounds without a scope. That was my point. A hat should cover yours.

Don't joke about a model 70 with 160, he's dead serious when it comes to winchesters if I remember correctly

An alaskan in 338 would be neat.

Ive heard good about the Portuguese guns and I've heard bad. YouTube channel called Desert Dog talks specifically about them and the guy on the Buffalo Bore channel speaks specifically about them.

For the money, I’d just assume have every pre 64 I can get my hands on

You have an excellent memory! Specifically, M70's, especially pre-64's. And Remingtons. And Rugers. And S&W's. And colts. smile

I have nothing clever to put here.

Hey 160, what's a older featherweight weigh? New one is 6lbs 12 Oz. A tikka superlite is about a lb less but it's not near as pretty

The pre-64's aren't very light. The US Repeating Arms made ones with the Schnabel tip were quite a little lighter and were made in the 80's and 90's. The new BACO ones that I have handled are heavier. Don't overlook a Tikka! I have a stainless walnut one in 6.5x55 that looks sharp and shoots amazing!

The pre-64's that I have handled were boat anchors. Great rifle but VERY heavy.

But in heavier calibers such as the 375H&H they shoot like a dream, with no need for a muzzle brake.
I have one of the last stainless classics that they made; love it.

A ROUGH rule of thumb but not exact:
If it is all numbers, it is a PROBABLY pre-64 although 64-68 fall into this catagory..
If it starts with a G serial number it is post 64.
If the serial number is a wild mix of letters and numbers that looks Chinese it is a BACO.

Absolutely! My 375 is a tank but you can actually lay on the bench with it and not get the snot beat out of you. I never understood the guys that bought Tikka Superlights in 300 WSM and then were shocked at how brutal they were on the bench. Same traffic for the guys that want a 6 pound sheep rifle in 300 WBY or 300 UM.
