Prep is good, but don't depend on it, cause there will be people around to take it from you, and don't say you're prepared for that too, cause you can be taken out without ever seeing your adversary....hate to be a downer but in a true doomsday situation stuff will happen. There's a good reason the settlers forted up, if they had the chance, during Indian raids... Cheers!, So put in a moat right?!

Until there aren't any.... Older business partner of mine was obessed with Chinese history. Before his health declined he made many trips there. Both of his son's are married to women who were born in China. One story stood out in my head. He was in a big city and asked his then guide now daughter in law why there were no birds. She answered we eat them. Not many people are far enough from the city to not have to fear hungry city folk!

Fruit and vegetables are best properly vacuum preserved in Ball type glass canning jars. If stored out of sunlight, or on shelves with curtains blocking the light, the fruit and vegetables will retain their color and flavor for at least 60 years, and maybe longer. I have eaten fruits and vegetables that were properly canned and properly stored for more than 60 years. They were excellent - no degradation.
It is a good idea to have some cash in small and medium bills on hand. If the electronic / wifi / power grid / banking systems fail do you have access to your money?

Sparrow/starling traps and mist nets are both very useful for catching a huge mass of small birds. I've posted a sparrow trap design my friend Sandy used and I've built a few times, that works very well. It's a modified Swedish crow trap. Sandy caught over 14,000 small birds in just one trap, every year, with mostly just bait birds, to lure other birds in. Keith

smasho is lucky. At her job, she has unlimited access to free meat, Are you thinking something like, "Sorry, we will have to put your cat down." and then shortly afterwards "Hello dear, we are having Chinese stir fry again tonight."? LOL Keith

Watch it fellas, some of you hefty ones would fill my freezer fine. Without the risk of leptospirosis or roundworms I would not be sure you would not get worms. Must be a betting lady.

Doubt she'd have to worry too much PF, most on here seem to already be self-deworming lol.

First and foremost is being able to get drinking water. Either through distillation or filtration.
Food and shelter is secondary in most climates.
Having a storage of goods is only as good as your defense.
You need a network of like minded individuals to have a chance.
At least that is the model I’m working towards

You guys all live in a city? Unless nuclear heck I could live for months in the squirrels running around in my back yard. You never set a box trap for rabbits ? WAY too many cows and deer roaming the fields in my area for my family to starve. I live off grid in the middle of nowhere. I will agree food and water are easy to come by. That being said overlooking meds, hygiene, first aid, etc.. is a big mistake
Everything the left touches it destroys
