My youngest daughter, the RN in training, had a day off from nursing school and her two part-time jobs yesterday. This was the first time this season she has had a chance to hunt pheasants. Before nursing school we’d get out at least once a week during the season.

Me and the grandson taking a break.

I had a bird in my game bag when Raven flushed one and my daughter knocked it down. A few seconds later she flushed another one and Samantha had her limit. She didn’t even have time to put the first rooster in her game bag before she shot the second one.

She had her limit and I needed one more. It took awhile but I got another cockbird to make a double limit for us.

The hero shot. LOL

The red dog is still working on figuring out the game.

It’s a good day when you can wear out an eight-year-old and a pair of dogs.

Nothing like time in the field with a daughter! Great pic of the dog doubling as a pillow.

Raven, the 3.5 year old black female has really stepped up her game. This is her first year on her own since her mentor Boomer, my eleven-year-old yellow male retired after last season. She is near the peak of her game in finding, flushing and retrieving birds and will only get better with more experience.

Ranger, who I think you meant to ask about, is the six-month-old red male. He has made the usual hunting puppy progression from just romping around on hunt days and bugging Raven to taking an interest in what she is doing. He's been following her through the brush and has started branching off on his own. He only flushed one bird this season, a rooster he literally stumbled into. LOL

He has started retrieving downed birds. Sometimes after Raven makes the retrieve I'll hold her at heel and toss them into the thick stuff for Ranger to find and fetch. Sometimes it's a struggle but he gets it done and it's great practice/experience for him.

Awesome pics. I've always wanted to pheasant hunt.

Help me understand pheasants in PA. I'm assuming these are stocked birds? Have they had a chance to habitate and grow wild? I'm not trying to shadow anything if so. VA has programs with quail. I just never knew that PA was an option for pheasants.
