When coon calling was big I’d find shot in them, push as much as possible then use a regular knife to cut when necessary as a regular knife is easier to sharpen.

Caught an otter a couple years ago with his unmentionables mostly blown off with a shotgun.

My first bobcat had a bunch of 6 shot in it. It was in a pretty big chuckar hunting spot. Guessing a bird hunter too a shot at him.

If traps work like the Antis say......I would have no fingers.

Let here you surprise when skinning your catch!

One year when I averaged 120 a year I got at least 10+% with bird shot, I get coyote that survived a passthrough rifle shot on the body too.
One year in WY I got a couple that survived the buckshot from the control guy in the plane, entry was all healed up, exit was still pusy-infected and open
Last coon I skinned survived a rifle shot through the body, I'm guessing.23

I hate hitting steel shot with my sharp beaver knife. Dang duck hunters.

It is not that unusual to find small shot in foxes around here.

I think a lot of otters are shot by people who own ponds then by duck hunters. Shot a decent buck years ago that had a Fred Bear broadhead and about an inch of wooden arrow in the back ham. All healed over..

Those are some crazy finds!

I shot a bull moose in NW Ontario several years ago. Cooked a roast the next year and while slicing it I found a .22 bullet in it. Entry path was all healed up.

Found a .22 slug in a beavers head a few years ago. Looked like a perfect shot between eye and ear but just a tad high. You could see where the bullet traced up around skull stopping dead center on top of head between bone and skin.

Biggest surprise was to find enormous lymph nodes on a really old boar. He had a big head and tiny ears and a bobbed tail. He was so cute and sad looking when I walked up on him and I kinda felt bad. But he wouldn’t have lasted the winter I feel…probably did him a favor

The fact that you were trapping "saved" coons is hilarious.

Curious how you like to prepare/eat coon. What's your go to?
