Hello Trapperman, lately I have been thinking about the old #2 square jaw victors for mink. Unfortunately, I had to sell a lot of traps a few years back and with that sale went 100 ish old montgomery 1.5 RJ and 4 dozen victor #2 square jaws.

My thought was, what if I took bridger #2 square jaws, made them dogless, added a double jaw, and put a little weaker spring on it. Has anyone done this to make a somewhat clone of the old victor we know and love, but better?

Why dogless? I think you'd have troubles with too much pan tension with a dogless.

I did this with some Duke #2 square jaw. I put on Wild River pans and 1-1/2 coilsprings

Doesn't have to be dogless! I was actually thinking wind river pans. I know that on old trapper told me to make sure the dog was away from bridge wall to make sure it didn't "throw" their leg. Do you like that mod for mink better than the vic #2s if you have compared them?

I barely used them. I just started tinkering with them when fur prices tanked.

The old Victor #2 Square jaw fox trap is a great mink trap if you can find them.

Which springs did you go with?

i wouldnt worry to much about the strength of the coil springs for Mink i would just make sure the pan sits flat with the jaws or just a touch under and when setting for mink with those coils be sure to place them in such a way that the Mink has to walk thru the trap
and not over a jaw Mink being very short legged the position of the trap can be the difference between a toe catch or a solid body catch with those square jaw twos

Only reason for worrying about springs is coon, hence the double jaw to prevent chewing. If this is a dumb idea just let me know and I will leave it with the rest of them smile
