An interesting observation I have made about red foxes: Most English red fox have white bobs on their tails, sometimes up to 1/3 length of the tail. Most North American reds have the same on their tails. But areas where the English and North Americans reds have cross bred (like here in the northeast where the English reds were imported centuries ago to chase in fox hunts with dogs and horses) most reds have little or no white on their tails.

most of the reds I caught in SW PA had very little white on the tips of their tails. I always thought it was because they were younger fox, even though a few were legitimate 14 lb'ers.

appreciate the info, Eric!

btw...why don't we call them orange fox? they're ORANGE!
