Have any of you guys used this method for putting up fur or tanning? Looking into getting a faster setup. Right now I have a portable washer that does well in cleaning the furs after fleshing and I shopvac blow out the furs to dry. However its been difficukt to get them to dry in a decent time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I worked as a skinner and washed coyotes and fox. I would run up to seven coyotes to a load, unless it was the last load for the day and I had less then ten. Ten or over I split them into two loads. When they came out of the washer I would hang them by the nose and let them drip dry some. Once on a stretcher they were hung back up by the nose and I had fans blowing on them. It was a heated room, since it was in Montana. I kept it in the low 60's in there. Air movement really helps drying.

Same as MJM. Tried all methods of washing and drying. Coyotes, badgers, beaver, and coon. Washing machine and hang dry with a fan and heat.

Maybe ADC will chime in. He's posted in the past about using a dryer as a fur tumbler, not a dryer.

Find a commercial dryer with a heat element that’s out to make an excellent tumbler some modification is required and they take up a lot of space is an issue.

I gotcha my fur shed is heated and cooled with a good dehumidifier thay keeps it at or under 30 percent. For fur out species doesn't seem to be too big of an issue however when im doing skin side out or trying to board beavers seems like forever before they are fully dry from blowing them out with the shop vac. On the washing machine note what do you guys put in yours? I have always used a dash of dish soap and mane & tail shampoo, any thoughts?

I ran an old maytag gas drier used like a tumbler for years. Picked it up as a give away because burner didn't work. Nice thing about the gas model was plugged right in to regular 110 outlet. There is only the heat in air out vents that were easily cover with sheet metal, couple pop rivets.
Throw in my wet hides with bucket hardwood sawdust hand full corn cobs. Good to go.

The motor on electric dryer is not 220. Only the heating element is 220. You can put a 110 plug on the motor of a electric dryer and it will run.

Actually, on an electric, 220V dryer, one 110 leg goes to the heating element, and one 110 leg goes to the motor. They both use the same common.

Just doing what I want now.
