Saw my first snow dog ...out ice fishing last weekend.

Guy had 3 ice fishing sleds daisy chained together.

He had a seat mounted in his ..and behind him his

Drunk buddie was in a sled..

And all the gear was in the 3rd sled.

He even dragged his Bob house to a new area...with the

Snow dog.

Would like to hear if anyone has one...pros and cons .

Looks like the hot set up...light weight / compact too

And thanks

Nessie all could think of when I read the caption was this song by Rush. I don't usually hear the term snow dog.

There was a post a few years ago about them. Had a few pictures also. There also is a utube video of an electric , battery powered one some guy uses deer hunting in the snow. Almost like a mini snowmobile. He just stood up on it and ran right across a snow covered hay field.

It was one of the WI guys on here that was making his own. Couldn't find it with a quick search. I'll keep digging.

I think that was tlguy from WI. A buddy of mine built his own out of an old snowmobile frame and skid. First powered with modified snowmobile engine, now he has an old roto tiller engine on it and he likes it for the lightness as he hauls it on a platform off the Reese hitch on his car. He also hauls a lot of firewood with it. They definitely have their plus’s and minuses like everything. I’ll try find that old thread. Happy trapping! ScottW

My friend has one we use it for ice fishing. Good thing about them in NY don’t need to register them like a snowmobile. We hook up 3 sleighs like you describe, works good to get us out on the ice. They can be a bit strenuous to operate.

I got one and I like it a lot. I can go places where a snow machine can't go in tight river bottoms and checks all the boxes for my needs. Easy to load and unload takes up hardly any room to store. Very simple, made machine with a Briggs/Stratton. I got mine new for 3200$ and is great for fishing, hunting and can use all year round. We did some logging with it and works great pulling timber out to cut up and load in sled to ranch house. Pull weight is about 1100 lbs they say, and we had all of that and got the job done. We use it at the ranch all the time. I think mine is 58 inches long 2 feet wide and 30 inches high. Can lift it up and move it around easy. About 280 lbs total. Goes through powder and wet snow with no problem got all the power we need it for.
I just need something to get from point A to point B and it fits the bill. We have had snow machines all our life here on the ranch and this fit our needs so much better and way more versatile. Don't need something that goes 50 mph and so costly when something goes wrong with them.
Another plus for us is don't require a license or insurance. Saves a lot of money.
I hope it works out for you. If you trap, hunt or fish it is an awesome unit for those because you can use it year around in mud, sand dry ground etc.

For me is way cheaper then a snow machine and checks all the boxes for what I need in a track machine.

I didn't get reverse so light to move it around if need be. I don't have studs on mine and does just fine in ice. On ice it you aren't going to have that take and grab go but more of a easy throttle to get up and running. I can't say enough about them for what I use it for. I store mine on top on a mechanic creeper 4 wheeled unit for going under vehicles. I can move it around if Ii need too. It fits just perfect on the creeper.

I pull sleds of wood out with it from back country and can get any where I need to go on the ranch when snow is to deep for a 4x4 also. I don't have one picture of it loaded up and pulling.

These things definitely have their place. My buddy's son has one and it's pretty slick.

I definitely prefer a snowmachine, but if I had budget constraints, I would consider one.

it is definitly on my list of things I want to look into.

with the base model MSRP at 3K and the ability to pull firewood , game and ice fishing transport it would certainly be tempting

is there enough snow is the question , where a used quad gives a few more options but just doesn't do snow very well.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Have one and used it considerably last winter running the line no problems getting where needed to go and a few places shouldn't have gone. Bought 2 otter medium pro series sled to tow behind the snowdog sled, frequently take the tow bar off snowdog sled and mount on otter sled so have more room in sled. Have hauled enough ice fishing gear on the lake for 3 people and a eskimo 650 HD ice shelter with no problems. Last winter took a break and used it to participate in a snow mobile bucket run. A 50-mile snowmobile fun run, and went everywhere snowmobile went with exception of high marking the steep hillsides. Had no problems running in 24 to 36 inches of snow.
One of the better Xmas presents wife bought me
