Nancy, Good Afternoon...Used to use it all the time for work, great results, get the Receipt returnable option so when they sign for the item USPS also sends you a copy of the receipt....Mark

Expensive stuff? No. Important/Legal? Yes.

Same result as Cooncuff, though it was years ago.

Did it take longer than an insured priority mail package?

Just make sure there’s no way they can default to their “perishable mode” and not pay you if it’s lost or damaged. If it’s important Id see what comparable services FedEx or UPS would offer you before I’d trust the Post Office but they have burned me before and took no responsibility for it.

They did take my money no problem. LOL

Not perishable in any way, shape or form!! UPS and FedEx were not an option.

I have used it twice. I had a check get lost, that I had to put a stop on, in the regular mail. When I mailed again I used registered mail.I didn’t realize that you had to pay extra for a return receipt, so I didn’t have it. It was no problem. The tracking is so easy that I didn’t miss the return receipt. The tracking tells you when it was delivered. The second, which was just two weeks ago, I knew about the return receipt but did not bother to buy it. Once again, tracking is so easy.
It moves very slowly. It does not get thrown into an ocean of mail and you hope it surfaces in the right place. It gets handed from person to person at each location. It is slow. I mailed from Bowling Green Ohio to Southern California and it took eleven days. That time frame did not bother me at all because I knew my letter was safe all the way. If you, at least me, are mailing something that you really want to make sure gets there, it is what I will use.
It ain’t cheap but it is worth it to me.

Through the 1970s, the military still paid its members in cash. The funds for Ft Bragg were shipped from Richmond in a vehicle owned by the Post office. Sheriff cars met it and escorted the Postal vehicle to the next county line. The funds were insured using Registered mail, which was less expensive than Brinks.

I remember getting paid in cash on a ship. We got a #2 bill in our pay so local merchants would see the military funds circulating in their communities.

Registered mail is signed for by every office it passes through. Chain of custody so if lost, the Post Office knows who last had it. Not sure how it is accounted for today.

In my first job, we sent and received a lot of registered packages.

I used registered mail to ship 2 rifles a couple years ago to a gentleman in one of the western states. He was very confused why I would do that.

The package made it to a post office about 40-50 miles from final delivery and then nothing. After a week, I contacted my local post office as registered mail has a signed chain of custody and has to be kept under lock and key. Seemed the packages had went missing.

Long story short, someone had contacts in the post office and they knew what the packages contained and it was diverted. They finally got to the bottom of it. Don’t know all the details from there just that I had to provide some communication I had with buyer and a sworn statement.

Yes,more secure but slower. When I worked in post office 40 years ago during coast guard time .ALL registered mail is kept secure in locked cage with chain of custody. Saw silver bars spill out one time on sorting table but still delivered as package damaged.

When I was in the military, albeit a LOOOOOG time ago, it was acceptable to send classified material by registered mail, so it was very secure back when. (1968)

I used it quite a bit when I was in the landlord business, mostly for legal eviction notices. USPS will tell you when delivery has been attempted and when the item was received/signed for by the addressee.

The only problem I had was tenants not signing/receiving. Nothing you can do about that.

Eh...wot?
