Thank you for all of the great information and perspectives. I really appreciate the thought and detail. Here’s my current example of why I’m unsure about this concept…

I absolutely recognize that location is most important. I got permission last week to a 150 acre farm, which is a pretty large chunk here in my area of Pennsylvania. I spent a few hours studying aerial maps, then I spent a few hours walking the whole farm.
I identified 14 locations that look to be good travel areas.
If I set 1-2 traps at each of these, I’d have 14-28 traps in a 150 acre area.
That seems like too many to me.
So, maybe the better question is, how do I narrow down the spots I want to set if I have 14 good options on this 150 acres?

How many critters you got? If I find lots of sign or cameras show a lot of critters, I’m saturating the place. If not I’ll hit intersections and terrain break up features.

I went and put out cameras a few days ago right before dark on intersections where I’ve caught before and have gotten pics of nothing but deer and very few of those. I divide this property up when trapping…North and South. What I didn’t know until today, because I did a lot of this after work in the dark, was that the entire property to the East on his South side has been clear cut. It looks like barren waste land, lol.
I’ve now moved all cameras to the North and walked/drove that area that looks a lot more promising…if I can keep the deer and turkeys out of my sets!!!
I’ll saturate the creeks with DP’s but may just put out 10-12 footholds for coyotes/fox/cats. The North section is about 300ac +/-

Coyote Recon 101.
Pick the top five spots with the highest amount of tracks & poop.
Set two sets per location for a total of ten traps.
Kill Coyotes.
