That makes four deer for me in the 2025–26 season. There’s still a week of season left, but I’m out of doe tags.

She dropped in her tracks, third deer in a row now to do that. She looks like she’s bedded down doesn’t she?

My buddy was hunting about a mile away and tracked me down after shooting light ended. He acted as my gun bearer while I drug her out.

I prefer to let them hang for 7 to 10 days but after tomorrow it’s going to go subfreezing and stay that way for who knows how long, the foreseeable future. So I guess I’m butchering tomorrow.

Eh...wot?

Center-fire we get the regular two weeks after Thanksgiving and in late October youths, old guys and vets get a special three-day season. That's it unless you happen to live in a special regulations area, which I do.

The late season starts after Christmas and runs to the second or third week of January. In most of the state it is limited to flintlocks and archery but in the two SRA's center-fires are allowed.

One more week left in the season. I doubt I'll go out again since I've gotten four deer during the 2025-26 seasons and I'm out of WMU 5C tags. I could hunt with my flintlock for a buck or a doe but I doubt I will. My buddy will hunt my spot next Saturday and he may get one which we would add to the scrapple pot.

There are going to be multiple batches of scrapple this year since I have extra carcasses. I can cook two at a time and that usually yields 40-50 pounds. I currently have four frozen.

So most weekends in February we will be either making scrapple or venison-apple sausage.

Eh...wot?

how many gallon is the Scrapple pot?

I was looking at them the other day but not to make scrapple I am thinking 10 or 13 gallon the next jump up in size is 17 then 25

I think the 40 , 75 and 90 gallon are just too big for anything I could need to do

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

It's a very old one. I found it in a barn I was working on and the owner told me I could have it if I could get it up a rickety set of stairs. I really wanted it so I risked life and limb to get it up those stairs and into my truck. LOL

I used a five gallon pail to check the capacity once, it took six to fill it and it wasn't all the way full. So it's about a 32 gallon pot.
