Hello. This is a long shot, but I don't know a better place to ask. I got this #14 years ago from a friend that used to work in Alaska. He had a couple dozen of them, all with a double notch on the pan. I was just wondering if any of you happened to know the trapper that this mark belonged to. I just think it would be very cool to know. Thanks for looking. [Linked Image]

I do not. Ran across a few traps with two notches right next to each other on one side of the pan, and another notch 90 degrees away. Feller named Willy.

Could the notches represent how many wolverine the trap held? laugh Could it have a trapper from the HooDoo Mt.?

Thank you for the responses guys. If the notches were to denote catches, the guy retired every #14 after it's second wolverine, lol. Not sure where he'd of gotten them, other than it was in Alaska.

The notches shone in the picture look very precise. Not just filed. I would agree someone likely used them for identification, but that is an unusual way of doing it. Any idea what part of Alaska those traps came from?

Just doing what I want now.

The fellow I got it from worked for the pipeline. I can only guess that he got them somewhere along a pipeline route, but I doubt that narrows things down very much.

Not really. Guys working on the pipeline came from all over the world, and some would put in a "shift", which might be several weeks or more at a time, then get flown home for a couple weeks. It's hard to say if some actually did any trapping, or who sold the trap you have now.
I know that V-14 traps are still used quite a bit up there. I had a dozen that I used for wolverine, but wasn't too impressed, (I did hold 1, but I also lost 3), and am not really a big fan of jump traps, so sold all of mine about a dozen years ago.

Well, I figured it was a slim chance that anyone would know, but I figured this was the best place to ask. Thank you for looking and asking AV, I appreciate it.
