If that's all that was happening, I'd agree 100%. But, per the OP, that's not what the information was being used for. The problem isn't necessarily the looking up the information, the problem is in what the information is them used for.

Running plates isn't a NCIS function. It is a state DMV function and open to any LEO. They do it everyday with cameras. That gives you home address, now if the agents were using NCIS to run criminal background checks to run the names belonging to the home address we would be talking about violations.

Just say that you know nothing of car tags and NCICS. Two totally different things.

Car tags are no different than the address on your mailbox and as inanimate objects do not share 4th amendment privacy protections save those given to their owners from search and seizure. I or anyone can pull up your address on the county platt map and get your name, nothing illegal about that.

BTW, you might ask why are they making a NCICS claim in the article when any knowledgable person would know what I just outlined.

what is the information being used for? I mean, not just what one unidentified caller is CLAIMING...I mean what has been its PROVEN use?

Do you not think it is plausible that the feds are identifying suspects who are committing the crime of interfering with lawful LE operations????

I suspect many of the people harassing ICE officers will soon be arrested on Obstruction of Justice and other charges. I would guess all of us hope so.

Every major law enforcement agency has an intelligence division tasked with collecting information on known bad actors and potential bad actors. Facial recognition, tag numbers, known associates are all documented and filed away somewhere. None of that is a violation of rights as long as all of it is collected in the public and in clear view. No search involved. Basic rule, if me or you joe citizen can see it and take note of it then so can they.

As for the riots.. um "protests" are concerned, because felonies have occured during them and LEOs have been physically assaulted and threats on life actively ongoing both reasonable suspicion and probable cause exists to investigate and/or stop and question.

Just because you've been lied to that screaming verbal abuse and threats is protesting or 1A protected speech does not mean your "rights" are being violated when they want to know who you are.

The only right to protest we have is to PEACEABLY ASSEMBLE. With emphasis on peaceably and we have public indency and public disorder laws on the books for when your speech is no longer peaceable.

I'm not anti law enforcement. I'm opposed to the state abusing its power. I worked for a police department for 13 years, and served them quite well. At least, they seemed to think so.
