Not that there’s a good time for a tankless water heater to poop out but here we go again. It won’t stay lit it starts to warm up then kicks out shows error code 13 that could be one of several things. The last time replacing the 3 igniter tips fixed it and it’s been good for several years now my lack of annual maintenance might of caught up with me. LOL
So now it’s time for the “I’m sorry spa treatment” to make up for my lack of attention to the water heater over the years so it looks like first a 2 hour distilled vinegar flush, then new igniter tips, check the air intake screen, look in the exhaust pipe after the winds we had over the weekend for obstructions. Until the parts get here it’s camping showers time wet lather and rinse before it kicks out one person on tank duty the other showers in spurts. LOL

I’ll do the flush first as that’s past due anyway and I don’t need to open it up for that but so is the blowing it out thats past due too. I’ll do that when I change out the igniters and do a total inspection on it I hate to keep working around that circuit board once I open it if I damage that it’s $1,200 for a new heater if I mess that up.

I have a Bosch, mine didn’t want to lite, I bent that little wire that the pilot warms a little closer to the pilot and it works real good now, I also cleaned and tightened the ground. Occasionally i clean the screen at the water inlet. That is the thermal coupler When it reaches it operating temperature, it sends an electrical signal to the manifold allowing for gas to pass….

Error codes? You mean you have a tankless heater with a computer in it?
As much as I possibly can, I avoid any sort of device that contains a computer; outboards, chainsaws, water heaters, etc..

I'm so glad I didn't put in an on demand water heater when we considered it a few years back. We had run LP into the house for a gas range and included a tap into the basement room with the water heater. Plumber wanted 5K for the heater and install. Wife wanted to do it but we stuck with electric. Minimal things to go wrong. Can't see the on demand ever paying back the cost. On demand translation is, “it will get there when it gets there.” LOL I’m not sure if you save much waiting for the water to heat up it always seems like a waste of water. Our sink is right next to the water heater closet and the wait is way longer than I expected it to be with it being that close.

Just put in a navien240/130 btu boiler on demand hot water so far really like it will have to wait and see how much the electric bill goes down. I had a heat exchange set up on my boiler it was tough on the standard LP water heaters the tanks could not take the prolonged heat and the anti scalding valves did not work long from the calcium deposits same with the exchange bypass valve I just leave it open it’s easier to lower the boiler temp if it warms up. Don’t even think of using black pipe anywhere in the system that stuff is a magnet for excessive deposit build up. I have rural water not a well. I run the boiler in the basic set up with a hot water spin down filter and sediment traps it’s a lot less hassle. I put a temperature gauge in the Pex line in the water heater closet so I can see the boiler temp from inside the house. The tankless water heater I bought on sale for $600 on close out it had a $300 tax rebate and I put the boiler and tankless water heater in myself saved a ton of money to the works.

Vink, my thermocoupler is coupling now. We put ours in 20 years ago, paid $700 for it. When we first installed it it dropped the electric bill $50. That’s like $200 now.

Think your talking about the outside wood boiler which i had but after 24 years of use i finally retired it and with the price of new ones at my age didnt know if it would be feasible to buy.just me and my wife and she's in no shape to load it and if something happened to me she would have to go another route.i miss cutting and splitting the wood but decided to go with propane boiler and on demand water heater in 1 unit. Thought that might be a different boiler set up just the pitfalls I ran into with mine so a heads up for others.

Have a neighbor here that put in one of those on demand ones and when it quits he said he’s going back to an electric tank type as said it takes forever to get hot water anywhere in the house and he’s not really sure if it’s cheaper to run than an electric one. Bob, im gessing he didnt size it right for his home. I have a larger home than I need and the tankless flat works. Had a bunch of family in for the holidays once and realized I had 3 showers along with dishwasher running at the same time....never made a difference...hot water for everyone for unlimited time. Again, maybe not for everyone, but I cant ever see going back to a tank.

Folks who charge $5000 for a tankless heater are the same folks who charge $20,000 to shingle a 1200 square foot, 4/12 pitch roof rambler with three-tab asphalt roofing.
I love LPG on-demand hot waters, I have six of them in various buildings.
