My girlfriend from 1988 until 1992 really liked wine coolers. It was about all she would drink. Even though we were well underage, the Kroger near our university, which everyone called dirty Krogers, would let us buy wine coolers. I thought it was because we always bought groceries too and they just thought we were a young local couple, not students. She cooked all of our meals. Our friends always got carded when they were just buying booze.

We were walking back to campus, through a bad neighborhood and she squeezed my hand hard and said those guys are staring at us. In a window up ahead, there was two large men standing motionlessly staring at us. I palmed a K-Bar lock blade I carried and trained with. As we got closer, I could tell the men were huge. They didn't move an inch. We got a little closer and I started waving at them. My girlfriend froze and yelled "Do you know them? They're huge!". I said " You know them too and are carrying them.". She said "I can't possibly carry them. They're giants. What the heck!". I said "look!". It was then she realized they were giant cardboard cutouts of Bartles and James, the wine cooler spokesmen.

When I first head this song on the radio bac k in the 80's I thought they were saying school girl pick me up. i told my wife who was my girl friend at the time there is a cool song I head on the radio called school girl pick me up. It was a month before I found out it was smooth up in ya. This was before smart phones and the internet. I bought the tape when I found out who it was. Still like the Bullet Boys.
