I suppose you could kind of rotate it before the bad times ? Seems like gas would be the most important item outside of food and water .

I keep a few gallons of gas on hand. I like ethanol free gas in boat motors lawnmowers chainsaw and generator. I dont consider myself a prepper. Just makes sense to keep a few things on hand.

Wife and I keep our vehicles filled up, that's about 90 gallon we have on hand.
There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

Best is to fill your cans with ethanol free gas. Caseys has it here. I used Stabil in each 5 gallon can.
My current cans are just filled with reg 87 octane and stabil... I plan to use it up in the vehicles to keep it fresh.
(Old 87 ethanol gas mixes like crap for 2 cycle chain saw, better to have good clean hot burning ethanol free gas.)
Using a higher octane like 92 would be better than 87 but not as good as ethanol free.
(Don't let ethanol gas sit in your carbs, add a fuel shut off, and let them run out and store them dry so they don't gum up.... saws, gens, boats, weed eater, blower etc...)
I keep diesel and kerosene on hand too, five or six five gallon cans each... I bought spout kits on amazon and rebuilt them all to be pour friendly.
So I have gas for my pull start generator (30A), fuel for my tractor and its 3 pt gen (50A), kerosene for a torpedo heater, and a few cord of wood stacked and dry for the fireplace.
This will get me by for weeks running full time or for months running gens sporadically just to keep the freezers cold.
I have a well so that keeps my water running too and I have a 1,000 gal propane tank on top of that which is used if my heat pump can't run when its below 32F.
So my house can be heated with the heat pump, propane gas furnace, wood fire place, or torpedo kerosene heater... with running water via gen...
I haven't bought a large capacity ag fuel tank yet but that's one of my next purchases. Then the tractor can run infinitely and that helps with dragging logs of firewood home too should I need it.
If I get to where were running all of that for any extended amount of time its time to get the traps and rifle out to start filling mason jars and rationing out the rice and beans and holding out for spring to plant garden (seeds on hand) for more canning.
Is it "prepping" or just having a descent plan to survive what our grandparents experienced and proved was a real possibility?

IMO the most likely nationwide catastrophe is collapse of the dollar. That is not likely soon. IF it does happen it will happen fast. Collapse of the electrical grid is another real possibility. If that happens and lasts more than a few days it will be scary. Without juice diesel pumps wont work. Without trucks cities are out of food in three days. I am sure that diesel will be available for awhile. Still it wont be good.

I keep 20 five gallon cans of gas in a small storage shed built for that purpose. I always fill with high octane gas and rotate through all cans once a year. When a vehicle is low on gas we add oldest five gallon can to tank then next time in town we fill that can with high octane and top off the vehicle tank. We have a gas generator that would keep a few lights on and the freezers cold during an outage.

Keep in mind when you buy the high octane, non-ethanol. If it is at a pump with only one hose, put the first gallon in your truck, then fill your gas cans. That first galloon will be whatever the last person pumped.
When your cans are full, restart the pump with whatever you put in your truck normally, and get that last gallon of premium you paid for that is still in the hose. Very good point! Chris

I try avoiding aged fuel.
If I were aging my fuel I'd also hoard the parts and tools to overhaul the fuel systems.
I heard J Denvers gasoline did not go flat. That fuel was different than todays. "Where you're gonna get it or who's gonna take it".

Many older tractors will run well on the mineral oil and synthetic oil that is in the transformers on top of every few telephone poles. In a SHTF situation, you can spread a tarp or plastic sheeting at the base of the pole angled towards a bucket or other container and shoot a hole in the transformer, so that the oil pours out. Most transformers have about 79 gallons of oil in them. That will get you a long way and there is no shortage of transformers. Very few people know about this. Keith Would a 6.5 Creedmore be enough cartridge to make a hole in the transformer or would it be better to use a larger caliber? Say a 30- 06 or a 45-70? Looks to me like a 6.5mm (.264) hole wouldn't let out much oil and a larger caliber hole would be faster.
