Forgive me if there is already a relative thread out there, but for those of you in the know, do you pluck a beaver green or after its put up?

I plucked one by hand. I was told 40+ years ago to use a spoon and pinch the guard hair between your thumb and the spoon. That was how I did it. It takes a good pair of clippers to shear them. The under fur is dense and fine.

I've heard that commercialy, the skins are let sit until they are about to start slipping, then the hair are plucked, they used to do it with a tool on some sort on a beam, not sure how they do it now; maybe mechanically?
I'm not sure if the almost slipping process is done before or after pickling. Apparently trade secrets involed.

I had a friend sent a bunch of dried beavers to Moyles once for tanning. One of them came back with with almost no guard hair. We were wondering if it was one of the beaver that was several days dead before it got skinned.

Family Trapper (wilderness forum ) said a butter knife with double faced tape .

waggler I had an early black beaver, October caught come back from Moyles that way. I think it was due to the shaving of the leather and the beaver not being prime. I can't say I ever saw anything that was slipping guard hair and not under fur. Not saying you were wrong, just that I never saw it. When I worked skinning I saw about everything.

I saw a video years ago, and they did something to make the hairs come out easily but not the fur.
My friend's beaver was not blue/early, but he thinks it is one that had spent several days in very cold water before skinning
