Am I just a heartless child of unmarried parents or does anybody else get a little grin when you read somebody was attacked by a cougar, coyote in Colorado or California. Or maybe chomped by grizz in British Columbia

I just find it sad, I don't find it amusing at all.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, & I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve

I think I’d faint if I saw or heard it in real life. People are stupid and social media and this AI stuff is misleading. Makes folks think they can paddle out on a semi frozen lake and hand rescue a raccoon.
But I feel badly for anyone who gets bitten or mauled by an animal. Bites HURT and most of mine have been from someone’s beloved “fur baby” who is NOT a wild animal , rather some unsocialized and coddled mutt.
You wouldn’t believe how many clients think it’s our job to get hurt.
And the same clients get a kick out of it.

Sorry I went on a side quest with that one ! wink

No it ticks me off. A lot of times its a small kid with ignorant parents in a state run by people that believe animals talk and are equal or better than humans. Just a teaspoon worth of knowledge about the natural world and it would not happen as often.

Thing like people feeding coyotes cheese burgers in the city park each day and eventually a kid gets grabbed. A small kid squalling sounds like any animal in distress.

It's the tree hugging animal rights activist who vote to protect ( instead of manage ) predators.

They get exactly what the voted for

It is sad. In more and more cases the person attacked is as much the victim of the proponents of apex predator reintroduction/protection as of the predator itself.

In my local National Forest I used to be able to backpack without being concerned about bears. That was "fixed" by the introduction of 210 bears from other locations (the best behaved bears I'm sure) back in the late 1990s. As a result, a couple of years ago 17 miles of the Appalachian Trail and the associated shelters were closed to overnight camping due to bears entering the occupied shelters to steal hiker's food. That problem has been resolved for the present by the installation of bear proof boxes for food storage, but backpacking is not as much fun as it used to be. A problem and danger was created for the hikers and horseback riders and it's not like tourists drive through this area to "see the bears" as in the Smokies.

i just imagine a few of the invaders that entered from the Big Bend area south to about 75 miles down stream of Del Rio have met their demise from the proliferation of the mountain lions and black bear. And the mountain lions in that corridor can get very large, Got some awesome pictures of them from some friends who hunt upstream and downstream from Del Rio, those big cats they have on trail cameras are literally huge. extremely muscled up.

Whenever that happens I just hope that the victim voted to ban the hunting or trapping of that animal in their state.
